Finished with my tilt column project on the '84 Pontiac 2000 Sunbird today. :-)
Pulled the column so many time I think I can do it in my sleep!! Had put one in , only to discover it was loose at the tilt joint, took it back out and dissembled it, but couldn't figure out how to tighten it up, so used parts off it along with another one to make one good one. At least I have a pretty good idea how to work on one now tho.
The original column came with standard 2 speed wipers, and the tilt column came with optional interval wipers. The switches are NOT swapable. I did some research and found out that the delay mechanism is actually inside the motor housing. Swapping the motor , using the interval switch and using the stock wiring harness, all the interval wiper functions does work, including the washer.
Now I've changed the fixed column for a tilt one, changed the 2 spd wipers to interval, changed the std. steering wheel to sport wheel, and swapped out a Pontiac center in the horn button. Just for info, if you use one of these steering wheels like I've got and need a horn button , one off a Chevette will fit perfectly!!
Can't say I'm all done, tho. Next project has to be another Rack & Pinion. This one is leaking at the input pinion shaft. Got one at the junk yard I've already pulled, just waiting on payday!! So the column will have to come out on more time!!

Neat stuff.I am leaving my stuff oem,but nice added feature.
The washer part of my stalk broke on the wagon yesterday...it had been messed up ever since I got it. Out of desperation, I simply cut the wires for the cruise control and tried that 2 spd w/o cruise stalk that came off the old Pontiac column. It did swap in. So I can say that the 2 spd stalks should interchange between tilt and fixed columns. To remove the stalk you push in on the stalk and turn past high on the switch , that should disengage a tab, the pull on the stalk to remove. Plan on changing the wagon over to interval wipers too, and going to a black column to match the steering wheel, so this is gonna be a "get-me-by".
Also I wouldn't recommend pulling those interval stalks out, the one I did never did go back on those splines right and never stayed on. I found it better to just dissemble the column and swap in housing holding the high beam switch ans stalk as a unit.
