Is exactly what I would want, but he starts at $3K and that isn't even the reserve...guy thinks its value will go up dramatically--he's outta his friggin mind!
I love my J, and yeah, I would love a T-type with this style nose, but I am a realist and I know these cars will never be worth anything to anyone who doesn't like them. Yes supply is low, but so is demand, and that dictates a more realistic price.
$3K for this car with less than 50K on the clock? Maybe at best, but what is it this guy is looking for?
For this particular car, if I had the money, $2500 would be my top price--anyone else think different?
I'd pay 3-4K for it, again if my wife wouldn't shoot me. I know these aren't going to rise dramatically or be the next Grand National in terms of value, but even 4K for a clean 25 year old turbo T-Type with 50K on the clock plus a stick is a great deal in my book.
If I were to sell my RS ragtop I'd look north of 3k for a start, and the Old Cars price guide would say these prices are pretty spot on with values. I'd think a perfect t-type would fetch 5-6K if it was a showcar. this looks like a mid level #2 car to me.

Not quite apples to apples but close, I paid $2400 for my '86 Z24 hatch in the same condition, 62K on the clock, 2 years ago. That was a bit more than what many J owners and would-be owners would care to pay- maybe 2K . Was I happy to do it?- yes. It's all in the buyer and his resources- how much time, mechanical and body work know-how he have, or $.
I am happy just to see a real nice turbo t-type out there.
If that is the car you want, wait out to the last day if no bids and contact the buyer off line and see if he will take a lower offer. His high reserve may scare off bidders and help you strike a deal in the final hours.
Best of luck!
OK- I see there are 2 bidders at 3K. Disregard my ramblings. @!#$- looks damn perfect- nothing missing, altered or screwed up. If no rust under the doors....golden.
Man, memoires of my '85 Sunbird S/E turbo running strong, as well as the fact I liked the Olds & Buick interiors even better!
Ya, thats nice. And its in MI.
A few hours drive for me from the Detroit area.
SOLD! 12 bids, $4100. Good for the owner.
wow, what a nice piece of j-body history right there.
