2.4 Cam Cover needed !! Anyone have one??
Friday, March 14, 2008 6:17 PM
Hey all,

I need the front cam cover from a 2.4 engine for my car...

I was doing a headgasket earlier, and the cover got cracked because my brother didn't tighten the bolts evenly... Its the one closest to the front of the car w/ the cam sensor on it. I only need the top cover.

If anyone local has a spare one laying around, I'd throw ya a couple of bucks for it. I am located 15 minutes south of Philadelphia.

Thanks.

You need the remove the timing chain cover to get it off.
You will probably have to remove the 3 large 18mm bolts holding the mount to that side of the engine.
Once that is off you can remove all those 10mm nuts & bolts around the timing cover.

Normally, you would have to pull the crank pulley to get access to the bolts behind it- but we're not going to go that far. Just remove all the bolts you can reach around the top of that timing cover. Once enough bolts are removed, you can pry on that cover to get a peek inside.

The intake cam gear needs to be removed. Its a 15mm bolt in the center. Once the bolt is out- you can pry the cam gear away from the housing to pop it off. You will have to wiggle it some because the timing chain should still be attached.

Once the cam gear is out the way, you can see the 4 10mm bolts holding the cam covers in place. You will only need to remove the top 2, but removing all 4 is recommended.

Finally, remove all the 13mm bolts from the cover itself. After all the bolts are removed, use 4 of the bolts to thread back into the special holes on the cover. These holes are only used to pop the cover off. You can spot them easily because the hole does not go anywhere. Its threaded on the cover, but the bottom housing has no hole. So, you insert 4 bolts back into these holes & tighten them down evenly until the cover starts to pop off.

You will probably have to wiggle the cover a little bit up and down to get it off. Just remove all the loose bolts from thier holes before doing this.

Then, throw the cover in a well packaged box & ship it to me !!

Please let me know if you need anymore additional info. It seems like alot but you could do it in like 10 minutes. I just wanted to describe it in detail for you.

Thanks !!
