im trying to get my A/C assembly out of my car because a few parts are going bad, and i dont use it enough at this time to justify spending the ~300$ for the parts to replace it.
has anybody ever removed their a/c assmbly before and put a "non-a/c" serp belt on their cav?
im trying to do this before it gets much colder.
if anybody could help me, i will gladly pay you for your time.
no shops will help me out, and im not a huge fan of trying to remove parts about which i know little. so thanks for checking this post, and if you can help me, of course i will pay for everything, and for your time, and maybe even a dinner or lunch at BK or somethin after
thanks guys
unfortunately im not near you, but i just removed all my AC lines/condensor/compressor, etc recently. And I knew nothing about it before i did it. Its very easy, the only hard part is discharging the system. its illegal to just release into the air and is supposed to be done by a special machine that clears it.
if you can get that done I can give you step by step directions the rest of the way. very easy.
if by some chance you try and discharge yourself....be VERY careful!!
how much do you think it would cost to discharge the system? i wonder if they would discharge it and just let me deal with the rest... all the places around here want a combo

they will help you.they removed mine when they did my motor swap
lright if you check the maintenance forum... my situation has gotten worse
its a constant LOUD noise now...
same noise, but it is un-affected by the a/c on or off
my blowers are reallllly loud now also sort of like a vibration sound....
how can i get thisa/c out? ill talk to gene if i can kris, but dundalk is really far away from westminster.
Do you just need a new A/c compressor? I have all my a/c parts out of my 2200 motor and my compressor was replaced not too long ago due to a failed compressor clutch.
Mine was rattling and sounded like a tinging inside a fan as it goes around.
i just recently removed my ac, its definitely something you can do yourself. i just covered everything under the hood and slowly loosened one of the connections for the ac system near the firewall. as soon as the connection is loose, back the hell up and the pressure will open the connection on its own and vent. wear goggles and gloves and you'll be fine. after that crap is vented, just go to town unbolting everthing.
i'm only an hour from westminster, md and if you wanted some help i might be able to drop by this weekend and give you a hand.
Andy, your killing the environment...lol.
I did the same thing not long ago using the delete pulley. Its definitely something you an do yourself.
LOL that's how i pulled mine but i disconnected it from the ac compresser first it sounded cool.
im going to stop by meineke today and get them to look at everything (they do a/c jobs)
ill figure out from there what im going to do.
L61, where are you located? i may take you up on that offer. haha
and maybe ill be nice to the environment and get meineke to purge my system .

i'm located right up 15 in Harrisburg, PA. Westminster is a relatively short trip for me, I had a high school friend that moved down that way several years ago. I just hop on 15 south and then pick up 97 at the Gettysburg outlets, takes me like an hour maybe
if you can get them to discharge the system, that will make the removal go real quick
heres what happened today. got some more information
valve cover gasket (leaking)
coolant hose (upper) leaking - getting old needs to be replaced
trans pan gasket leaking
(lots of @!#$ leaking eh)
they said the car is in great condition other than the gaskets.
they also said that its the A/c assembly siezing up on me... they dont want to remove it, nor discharge it, but one of the guys there looked at it, and i could probably get him to discharge it....
what all would you need to help me get rid of the A/c entirely? and fix the blower issue (if its just the resistor chip)?
harrisburg isnt to far away at all...
i walked in, and one guy noticed i had a cavalier, and immediately started offering me parts... wheels/evo cf hood/exhaust/intake... lol so if anybody needs anything ill get more information. but yeah, nice place afterall...

i have all the tools needed to remove everything. you'd just need to pick up the shorter belt ahead of time, so that we could yank everything out, put the new belt on and you'd be all set. I've never dealt with the blower issue, i think there might be a sticky about fixing that in the maintenance forum. Definitely see if you can get the guy to discharge the ac, everything will go a lot smoother if thats done ahead of time.
it looks like i'll have some free time on saturday, and the weather looks pretty decent, so i'd be up for helping you out then. let me know if that will work for you
idk about saturday, i have to work 11-7 but ill keep in touch. would you need an extra jack? or anything like that? ive got a 2.5ton and the gm jack in my trunk.
im going to call them probably tomorrow, or stop by, but i also have a friend with a donor (97) if that A/c would work, its brand new could they be swapped? although i would rather just have the delete.
what size belt would be needed? i think its a 63" but i could be wrong
im working everyday this week..... booooo.... ill look into an ac discharge and then just run around like that til we can get some time to rip it all out
