Should there be more restrictions for teen drivers in New York State?
Doing a school report and looking for anyones opinions. If you think so what should they be? What do you think would stop kiddies from hurting my hobby and getting themselfs hurt. I thought up the topic myself so help me on this.
I think the biggest one is that cops should ENFORCE the law of a DJ licience (pre-18 or pre-drivers ed) were they cant carry more then 1 passenger under the age of 18. Peer pressure in a car is pretty big.

i remember i couldnt drive past 8 i think it was until i either took drivers ed or turned 18.......i hated it then, but not a bad law at all.
i also agree on the 1 passenger thing. would definately limit the possible distractions!
I think the laws are just fine, they are discrimnatory enough as is

Anybody under the age of 40 should be banned from the roads
pa you get your permit at 16, hold that for 6 months (permit means you can only drive with a parent present) then after the 6 months you take your test and get your junior licence. Junior license means you cant drive past 10pm or before 6am unless its for work. At 18 you get your senior licence and can do whatever the hell you want.
I think kids on junior licences should only be able to drive neons. SOHC non turbo neons....that will keep them out of trouble, i think?

I think there is to many in some instances, making it 21 isn't wise either because then you have 18 y/o's getting out of high school and possibly going into the military and not knowing how to drive properly. They need to take the kids out show them how to wreck/put the vehicle out of control and how to properly recover it without over correcting. And teach them to respect the vehicle and other people on the road. I have a friend whois kid brother got a 4 wheeler and be doesn't have any respect for it. Has us all worried he is gonna wreck and get seriously hurt but he doesn't want to listen to what we say. It is the same way with other kids nowadays. Not wanting to respect the vehicle and not driving at there ability but trying to drive past there ability. and that is when they get hurt.
Up here in Rhode Island is similar to Pennsylvania...you get your permit at 16 after taking drivers ed, you hold that for 6months then get your provisional liscense (you cannot drive between 1am and 5am unless its for work) and you hold that until your 18 then you can do like said earlier "whatever the @!#$ you wanna do." I'm on this provisional @!#$ for another month or so then I will be able to whatever the @!#$ i wanna do not that i don't already. I just happen to be one of the very few smart 17 year old drivers out there lol
i have had my regular "whatever the @!#$ you wanna do" lisense since i turned 17.this is only because i took drivers ed over the summer. otherwise i would still have my jr. lisense untill i turned 18. i also live in ny.

Better education. Teach kids how to regain control of a vehicle when it losses control. Teach accident avoidance.
Like anyone with a new toy there gonna test the limits be it 16 or 30. A friend of mine got his licens at 21 and he's already had 4 accidents and about 5 speeding tickets. Age does not equate wisdom.
I still say restrict horsepower limits and classify vehicles, new drivers are restricted unless accompanied by a higher classified driver.
I thought it was rediculous that without any type of training I was allowed to drive a 24 foot(cargo area not total length) diesel truck without any training. I was able to drive it and take proper precautions but most people would overwhelmed.

i think that there should be an application process if you want to wear a thong.
And girls shouldnt be able to drive without a life jacket.

in jersey,(as of 2004 when i went through the system) in order to get your permit at 16 ( permit being that you need to have someone over 21 with a license in the car with you) you need to pass a written driver's ed test in school, then take 6 hours of driving lessons from a driving school of some sort . you need that for a year unless you get it at 17, in which case u only need it for 6 months and the written test and dont need any of that other crap . THEN at 17 you take your road test and get your restricted license (only allowed one passenger and cant drive past 11 pm, or before 5 am) then at 18 you get your full license and can do whatever you want.
it kinda sucked having to go through it and wait, but its a good theory... unfortunately thats about it. the police around me dont enforce the time restrictions, or the passenger restrictions for restricted license holders, and the NJ DMV passes way too many ppl every year that in no way should be behind the wheel of a go-cart let alone a car. its hard to say what other restrictions they should put on, because they are already pretty strict. but overpopulation on the roads is getting to be a big problem. and a lot of it, around me, is because of kids. i cant really speak for other places, but thats how it is in my area.
i think that a more strict road test would produce more cautious, aware drivers... not to mention fewer who are clueless... but im not one to suggest exactly what changes should be made. all i know is that its WAAAYY too easy in this state.
