Me and a friend got a few tickets tonight and I was wondering if this is even legal. First problem is that and off duty cop estimated our speed and a different cop wrote us the tickets (not sure if that is even legel). Second problem is that the other car that we were with, got pulled over and then left because he didn't realize that the cop wanted him. They searched for him and found him in his driveway, they let him go because his license was already suspended and the cop "trusted his mother to do the right thing" because she was standing right there. The cop told the other guy what we both got for tickets (I thought that was supposed to be confidential). Third problem is that the cop that estimated our speed only called to my buddies car when he called in then they got both of us, I am not even sure that the cop that called in got my license plate number.... granted I do have a big wing on the back, but it still didn't meen that I was deffinently the same car. I am not sure if he was still following us when we got pulled over though so that is a last resort.
Thanks in advance
Depends on how much they estimated over you were going. A couple mph and yes you could fight it on your own if they were estimating and thats all they got you on. But honestly, you guys must have been doing something to catch their eye and take notice of you. I think it would be safe to assume street racing since there were 3 of you. If that was the case, find your self some lawers. Its their word over yours and if street racing comes out, your done estimated speed or not. As for telling the other kid what you were charged with isn't a crime. Just look at what goes on over the news, and what people are being charged with. No matter what since you were cited a ticket, i'd get yourself an attourney and consult this with them. Thier fee's will keep points off your license and from saying anything you don't mean to in the court room about the cops judgement on speed, etc. etc. I've reacently had to deal with the legal system myself on a higher level.

How do you know this?

You thought wrong. If you lived in a smaller town your charges for anything from speeding to murder would be on the radio and in the paper the next day.
What exzactly was going on. Were you speeding?
In Oregon the cop has to be able to present evidence you were going over the limit. He has to prove through the numbers on the gun, or pacing you or something you were speeding. I learned this the hard way.
What were you doing?

We got on the on ramp apparently in front of an off duty cop. I know this because thats what the cope who gave me the ticket said. As far as what I was doing, I was going about 90 in a 65, cop estimated us at over 100 so I was ticketed for 100 in a 65 and reckless driving.
And...your complaining? You admit you were speeding. Quite a bit.
Did you cut him off when you got on the ramp? Not that makes a difference, but it would piss him off enough to give you a ticket.
He cant give you a ticket(hence why the On duty PO gave you one.)
He can estimate your speed and in court its his word against yours.
You can try to plead not guilty but you were, so thats BS. I would try to plead it down.
Say goodbye to your license for 31 days and hello to a 450$ fine on top of the fine for the ticket, oh and another 25$ to have you license sent into albany, NY Sucks, lol.
If you get 6 or more points within an 18 month period you WILL get your license taken away for 31 days, pay 450$ to NYS over the next three years in 150$ payments, pay the ticket (In your case about 250$) and another 25$ for processing.
I got nailed on this, 17 months ago I got a ticket for 6 MPH over (Bogus) and then coming home from NC I got one for 81 in a 65, did not think much of it, just pay the fine and so on. Next thing I know license taken away, fines out the ass.
It is gone until the 28th of this month and a lot of money. For 6 over the limit, in the slow lane with a flashy car, lol.
Oh well, why I am moving to Florida!

Sorry man but you and your friends must have been acting like real asses to piss off an off duty cop that he took time out of his day to call in for another cop to come and ticket you.
My brother did that once. He was riding his motorcycle and a car came up behinde him and started trying to push him. He was already like 15 over the speed limit. Well they decided to go around him and the passanger flicked a cigarrett at him. Needless to say they got tickets. And all the tickets went to the driver, not the passanger LMAO.
