97 Cavalier GOT TO GO!
Monday, September 04, 2006 10:40 AM
Well, i knew that this time was eventually going to come around...but its time that i let the cav go, i just done have time for it nemore..

Its so pathetic that i recently bought a VIS hood for it, RK header and new suspension all around for it...i havent even had time to think about putting ne of it on..(i bought the parts in april).

Im just becoming so busy with my new career that i dont have time to play with the car.

So with that said, i'd like to share a little about the car itself.

--Its hasnt seen the winter in 4 years
--Car has been babied beyond anyones imagination and is MINT
--Doesnt leave spots on the ground from leaks (might have a slow RMS leak)
--Runs great even with 138000 on the ODO (it just turned that)
--Has a new motor with some new and improved internals (that just needs to be put together)
--Used VIS hood that has minor damage to it (not installed)
--RK Header and catco cat (not installed)
--NEW KYB AGX all around with Eibach pro-kit (not installed)
--Needs a Heater Core thats it!!!

Mod list in profile is about right

Pics availible upon request.

I've put over 10k into this car,

Any ?'s AIM me at MrLorence

Thanks

A heater core can't be as bad as an '06 Silverado, the ENTIRE dash has to come out, down to the firewall.

Lifes too short to drink cheap beer.

At any rate i think that having the heater core go bad in a 97 and that being the only major issue with the car is a good thing

I'm thinking $5000 USD is fair

considering all the extra new stuff thats being included and the condition of the car

Your car, according to edmunds.com, has a private party resale value of less than $2000.

We all know you spent thousands of dollars upgrading your car, but I hate to tell you this, when you sell your car, its almost worthless. The reason that it is worthless is that the person who is buying it will almost certainly have to go to a bank to get a loan. When a bank figures out how much money they will give a person, they look in a small (in Wisconsin its yellow) book to determine a vehicles value based on make, model, body style, engine, and mileage. It doesn't say anything in there about that awesome stereo, $1000 body kit, $5000 paint job, $1200 rims, or $600 tires. Its worthless. The best advice to those who have upgraded your cars is to part it out, whatever you can, before selling it. Return it back to as close to stock as you can before selling it. That is the only way you will come even close to recovering any of the money that you have spent modifying your car.
Hate me, flame, scream and yell at me all you want for posting that, but it's the truth. We go through this about once a week here. Return the car to stock, sell it, then sell the parts. That's the ONLY way you're going to come anywhere close to seeing 5 grand out of it.

..i knew this was going to come up, thats why i didnt want to name a price

if i put ANY number with what i had to offer..

The only way that someone is going to pay even close to fair is someone who understands the value..

me and jz arent trying to bust your balls but you have things backwards. you dont exactly understand the value. unless you can find some that ones to buy EXACTLY what you have done to your car then its gonna be really hard to sell it, either that or find some young kid who doesnt know dick about cars and sell it to him. People see a modded car and the first thing that comes to them (well atleast me) is that the owner has beaten on the car. A car with that many miles and just a body kit and projectors arent going to get you much. (i would say something about the suspension but im not going to get started on dropzone but you can sell the agx and prokit seperatly for more money). we're not trying to bust your balls or say its never gonna sell for that much. if you can sell it for that much then good job but realistically it wont. you would be lucky to get 3k. honestly your best bet if you wanna sell it as a whole is put it on ebay. listing a price here for 5k isnt going to get you anywhere because people on these boards know these cars like the back of their hand. Modified cars are hard to sell. mine is going up for sell within the next month or so and i doubt ill even get 5k for my car if i sell it as a whole. (note im just using it as a comparison, dont take it personally like im saying your car isnt better than mine). if you can sell it for 5k, more power to you but we're just trying to tell you that when you dont get many offers you like or replies, dont get mad cuz we told you.

part it out
if you have stuff that hasnt even been put on the car you could prolly get close to or exactly what you paid for it

Im NOT going to part the car out..

I helped part out a cavalier in the same boat as mine and the kid got close to 1200 for the parts then had a junker car to send to the yard...people from here especilly LOVE when people part out a car because they want to get parts that cost something, for essentially nothing..headaches and arguments...thats a sweet deal if you ask me..

which is why i have generated interest in my area and have a very interested buyer for $3500

like i said around the 3k mark would be more reasonable. i wouldnt pay 3500 for it but i could see it selling for 3500

I plan on putting my 2001 Sunfire GT with less than 60k miles up for $5000 in 3 months...there is no way you could even consider selling yours for that much unless it was to some idiot on Craigslist or Autotrader.

which is why when my car goes for sale in about a month, it will either be on craigslist or ebay

Blue book on mine is 6 grand and I know for a fact that NO ONE would pay that much for it here...so I may put it up for that much on Craigslist LOL
