so, here's my situation. my gf and i are having a few problems and neither one of us wants to stay long distance. she's going to have a job at the boston children's hospital for the next year and said that if i could get a job in boston that we could work out our relationship. so, now that you know the back story here's what my questions are-1-do any of you know what the market for technician (mechanic) jobs in boston is? i'm having a very difficult job find one where i am in ny. no one's hiring right now. 2-do you guys know an approximate on a decent 1 bedroom apt in the boston area? i haven't started looking yet but will be checking out some stuff as soon as this is posted. i need something i can afford by myself because she said that she doesn't feel that we're ready to live together right now. thanks guys. if things work out hopefully i'll be able to meet some of you guys if i can get up there (also, if i'm not lynched when i show up with ny plates wearing a yankees hat lol)

If you can find anything that works out to be cheaper than $500 a room each month that's a good deal. I mean it depends on the neighborhood. Our apartment is on Mission Hill about five minute walk from the Children's Hospital and we pay $500/bedroom, 5 bedrooms. 1 room apartments or studio apartments usually run about $1000-1600/month from what I've seen, but check the bulletin boards in the lobbys of the local colleges for good deals on apartments. You might also want to consider filling a room for someone if budget is a big deal for you, that way you can get closer to $500 a month, but you will have to deal with roommates.

I can't offer any help as far as jobs go, I work in western MA, sorry.

you are probably better off finding an apt in a suburb in NH approx 45 mins away. Yeah there is a commute 45min to Boston, but you can find a job there. NH=no state income tax. Plus its way nicer up here. Check out....

manchester, nh
hudson, nh
londonderry, nh
derry, nh
salem, nh

i highly recommend you find a place for yourself in NH.
