Anyone near Albany? road question
Saturday, May 27, 2006 8:58 AM
Hey I'm from Ontario and I usually drive down to CT almost every year with my parents, usually we take the I-81 to the I-90 east through Albany, but everytime we go we take the Free I-90 right through Albany. But I was looking on the map and I can see that you take the thruway (going slightly south on I-87) to join back up with the rest of I-90 that goes to the Mass Pike. Which is the best way? or cheapest way? I will be driving down alone this year probably so I want to know.

Thanks

Its cheaper to go from the thruway to the free section and then get on the Mass pike. The section they want you to take (the short one thats not really I90 with only like 3 exits on it) is really only there to alleviate traffic in Albany thats just passing through. I've gone both ways, and I guess it all depends on where you're going in CT. Northeast CT, the bypass (the short section) is quicker, but pretty much anywhere else, its easier to take I90 the whole way.

Ya i'm going to Meriden CT, just in between Hartford and New Haven either way I'm taking the I-90 to Springfield, I just wanted to know if that THRUWAY route is better.

you can take either way. I think the free section to the mass pike is a prettier drive, but the paid section is shorter. Its gonna cost you a couple of bucksa in tolls though, they jut raised the prices. They are also doing a short section of construction on the fre section that might tie you up another 5 or 10 minutes
