request for assistance...
Tuesday, April 11, 2006 2:57 AM
so, some of you know i'm selling the Corolla of Doom.

well, to do that i need to bring it back to stock. this, unfortunately, means there's a lot of stuff i've gotta do to the car that i can't do, thanks to lack of tools.

would anyone be willing to allow me to come over and borrow tools(and/or a little manpower) for a couple of hours on either friday or saturday this weekend? i have to remove my front springs, rear lip spoiler, and the kit from my bumper. the springs i will probably need a little help to remove...the body parts i'd be able to handle as long as i'm close enough to a power outlet.

i would pay in food/alcohol(if you're of age).

Laura I know we may not be best friends but I'd at least like to be friends. Your welcome to come down Saturday and do whatever you need to your car. I have all the tools you could need and I have no problem helping you. Just let me know.

the body parts are held on with 3M doublesticky(and a bolt on each of the corner pieces) - those would probably give me the largest issue trying to remove. because of their horrible location, i'd really have to be working on my back for much of the removal process.

i'd also have to get the parts off without damaging the paint on the car or the pieces. :\

ohhhh.... 3M double sticky eh? that could be a pita lol. Easiest way to get double sided tape off is with a rubber wheel... which is one thing I do not have.

Lemme know though, provided the noise I'm hearing from my car while driving isn't my axel going out... i'm good to go.

Hi ho hi ho off to the suspension forum I go!!!

guys - i wouldn't necessarily have a good area to work here. sure, Art's all for working in the parking lot, but i'm not a fan. the way people drive in this court...yeah. let's just say i don't feel like having one of them roll over me.

Um, Laura you guys are welcome to come to my place. I have a 2 car garage and a parking pad that can hold another 4 cars and its in my back yard off the alley. We'd be safe there. The only thing we'd need to do is rent the compressor for the springs and when you return it you get all your money back so no biggie! I've got jack's and jack stand's and all the tools we could need.

If bridges are burned that can't be fixed I'll understand. But you both are welcome.

Saturday I have no plans other then to clean up after the puppy in the yard. So when ever would be fine. From the sound of it Rascal has a compressor we could borrow instead of renting one.

I think there is a spring compressor in my parents garage. I'll be autocrossing this saturday tho. I'll try and stop by my parents house tomorrow evenening (swaybar install). If they have it and someone around Frederick is willing to pick it up I could do a hand off. Or you could just rent one.

I originally didn't believe it but after doing my springs 2x now the spring compressor is really unnecessary but I've got nothing against being as safe as possible.

Any experience installing Control arm bushings?

rascal - what kind of spring compressor? is it a coil compressor or one meant for McPherson struts? my car doesn't do coil springs...and it does require the compressor.

i don't mind renting a compressor, though.

I think Rascal ment that lowering springs are easier to install due to their shorter height
Tho I'm not certain so Rascal correct me if I'm wrong.

Laura thats the kind we can rent at the Advance up the street. I want to say its like 40 bucks or so, but you get every penny back when you return it.

Rascal which control arm bushings are you referring to?

i knew what he meant in regards to his springs - but i'm swapping them out and putting the stock back in, so i DO need it.

yes, i've rented stuff like that in the past - i just didn't want to rent the jack, the tools to remove the springs, AND the compressor.
