My mom's car ('03 Malibu) went in for warrenty work on Saturday. After doing an oil change, they said the brakes were bad, so we went out and got replacements (because I hate when dealerships work on cars in general). I pulled the old ones off, and they were FINE! So, I called back Global and they gave me lip, said I had no idea what I was doing and basically said my ASE means nothing. Then, the shop manager gave me an attitude and for some reason, said their guys don't have to pull the wheel off to check the brake pads and said they were worn (keep in mind, the pads are in my hand).
This is just a warning, if you do to go Global Auto Mall on rt22 in Jersey. This is the second problem with this car, and third overall we have had with this dealership.
I am currently switching dealerships.

i could have told you from their advertisements that they were crooks lol... although he does have a point that an ASE doesn't necessarily mean jack. But almost all dealers are crooks, some just go further than others. The one I used to work for refused to give me new rotors for a used van that had worn the rotors down under specs, so i told them to give me a new set or i'd put them on the lathe and cut them down to the fins. Risking the safety of whoever would have bought that van, to save $160 that they could have just tacked onto the price of the van. In the end, i won. But i quit soon after and got out of the auto business... I won't rob people just to make money and i won't risk their safety to save a few bucks for my employers.

This is the reason I stopped working as a mechanic! Too many shady shops and bad dealerships to even know where to work at. Scarab good for you on the brakes! And Sam just never go there again and tell everyone you meet about how bad they are. You'd be surprised what word of mouth can do to a place. And its not slander if its true so don't worry about that.
Semper Fi SAINT. May you rest in peace.
ASE doesn't mean crap, if your a mechanic is a major understatement. It's a huge marketing tool. You place 2 shops next to each other, without any other information provided, and ask the customer which shop they want their car worked at. I can guarantee they go to the ASE mechanic because he's "certified".
I hate crap like "don't have to take off the wheels" to check a part that can't be accurately measured without at least getting in there .
Must be one of those "scheduled maintanence" deals.

Yeah, it was "scheduled maintanence" but they could have at least took the time to check, ya know? I am not saying ASE is great, but it does help for jobs and such, and although I am "certified" in one area, I tend to know more and more about other areas I am not certified in....just because I can pass a test. Whatever...I called GM and got about 5 other places for warrenty work to be done, and filed a complaint against this place.
Thanks for the support!
