I was told by one of my customers today that his wife was pulled over and given a ticket for failing to clear the snow from the roof of her car. He said her ticket is a a $150.00
fine and 1 point. On my way in to work this morning I saw an Anne Arundel county police officer with 3 cars pulled over and he was makeing them clear their roofs of snow. I had heard this law had taking effect about 2 years ago but this is the first I've heard of it being inforced.
DISCLAIMER : I can not verifiy 100% the amount of fines and points given for this and I am only reporting what I have been told. This is only ment to serve to give all org members a warning so they do not run the risk of getting a ticket that may or may not exist. I look at it as better safe then sorry. Please do not use this thread as an excuse to start a fight. Thank You.
Semper Fi SAINT. May you rest in peace.
I totally agree with giving warnings, I dunno about points. On the way to work this truck had snow blowing off it hitting other cars, almost caused an accident!
FINALLY they're starting to charge people with points for these things!
back when i lived in Harford Co, i had a sheet of ice fall off a truck in front of me and hit my windshield...and shatter it. lucky for me i wasn't hurt, but i COULD have been hurt/killed by it.
good. i'm happy this is finally in effect.
Jimmy, I agree 100%.
Lilbit, Holy Crap! you are lucky!

Good for those fools. i mean, why the hell wouldnt you clean it off if you already did the rest of the car? i constantly see people that leave snow on the roof and it pisses me off because then that guy does like 70 on the highway and all that crap comes flying off. Lets not also forget those who never clean the rear window, thinking the defroster will do it all.
yea i hate driving on 95 the first few days after it snows, cuz snow is going everywhere from cars/trucks
It was nice, truck infront of me on 29. Hit a tree branch, I couldn't see......I LOVE SNOW!! gah........stupid asses.
Oh and does anyone know the rule about the salt trucks driving around with their beds open letting salt fly EVERYWHERE?
And to think, yesterday I saw a chevy malibu with about 8 inches of snow on their roof, bnut their hood, trunk and most of their front adn rear windshields. It looked like they wiped just enough snow away for the driver to see out the front and back. It was hilarious, but would have loved to have seen them pulled over.
JimmyZ wrote:See, tractor trailers I don't think about as harshly when it comes to this. You can't reasonably expect these guys to climb up on top of their rigs and clear them every time it snows or when it gets cold enough for a the recent rain to freeze.
What I take major issue with are the lazy types who can't even clear off the top of their cars and little SUV's. They're just in too much of a hurry and can't be bothered to take care of it. I've even heard people say stuff like "oh, don't worry about that, it'll come off when we drive". Yeah, sure...let's not give any though to WHERE or HOW it comes off, or WHO IT HITS.
toss in pickup trucks with caps an i'd agree.
particularly Mazda B series trucks.
grr.
I keep BOTH an ice pick and brush in my car...there is no reason that it can't be done while the car is warming up and the defrost is on. What are they going to do? Sit in a cold car? Might as well make yourself useful and clean off your car.
Additionally, to those idiots who warm their cars up unattended...ITS ILLEGAL and STUPID...I hope your cars do get stolen and ticketed.
good @!#$ those lazy people. i was driving to work this morning and i couldnt believe my eyes, i had to take a picture w/ my phone.
a early 90s eclipse. i was behind it and the whole back was covered in snow, the person couldnt see out the back window. the tailights and license plate were covered w/ snow. as i was going around i noticed not only is the rear window covered but the dirvers side window is also covered

. as i pass this person i look in my rear view mirror to see a tiny clearing on the windshield for the person to see out. also the whole front was covered in snow including the headlights. (i get to work right as the sun comes up so lights are needed).
i just dont understand some people

just blame the water...and start carrying bottled water with you wherever you go. anytime you see someone take a sip from a water fountain, giggle maniacally at them.
Yeah I agree with fining people who are to lazy to clean off their cars. Tractor trailers are a different story. As far as the salt trucks they have a warning on the back of the truck to stay back at least 100 feet. It is a state vehicle though so basically they can do what they want.
One good thing about a rag top... Just tip it over and the snow goes bye bye! ahha
Haven't tried it but just got the idea. But in all seriousness is it really that hard to freaking take a broom and brush off your car?

Both my wife and I completely clear off our cars before we even move them. With vans and truck, they shoudl at least get what they can off the vehicle. Open the side door on the van and you can get enough off to keep sheets from flying off the vehicle.
The problem isn't necessarily the snow, snow is light and fluffy, the problem is when it melts a little then hardens again and you get chunks of ice flying everywhere.
Doesn't matter what I drive if theirs snow on it, I clear it off while the car is warming up.
Step 1: start car
Step 2: turn on front defrost on full blast full heat(yes I know its cold at first)
Step 3: turn on rear defrost
Step 4: get your lazy ass out of the car and clear all the snow off it, a strip here or ther is ok, but it should be 95% or so clear.
Step 5: get back into your car which is now warm and toasty
Step 6: find an empty parking lot and have a little fun

good. they got what they dserved

Im a Xbox 360 fanboy...and damn proud of it!!
how could you possibly get hit with snow from the car in fromt of you.....if you do your just as guilty as the guy who didn't brush off all the snow.....its called "following too closely for conditions"
as for the lights...yeah, its usually a good idea to clear them off
oh and yeah, sometimes you can't clear all the ice off your car. come live where i live, every noise in the parking lot echoes real loud, and if i am scraping off all the ice at 5:30 in the morning, my neigbors will literally come out of their apartments and kill me

no, it's called "driving during rush hour". parking lot like whoa.
like whoa.....back the hell off of the car in front of you.....you are the only person who controls the gap between you and the car in front of you....if you were behind a truck in the summer with a load of gravel and the rocks kept falling off......would you still stay on his ass, no you'd move around him or let a gap develop between the two of you, same difference as in the snow covered cars
and yes ive driven in rush hour, and i still maintain a gap between me and the guy in front of me so that if debris falls off his car i can avoid it. the way I see it if snow falls off a car and hits another car its both cars faults, the first guy for not clearing all the snow off, and the 2nd guy for tailgating
and parking lots... come on now, why would you be so close to someone in a parking lot that snow would fall off of their car and hit yours?

i love when it snows a a couple feet in buffalo 15% of the cars have a full snow fall on their roofs

It blew off the top of the car and up into the air, flipped over a few times while flying over the two cars behind the guy and landing on MY roof, cracking my sunroof and breaking off my antenna. Think before you speak.
Oh, and if your neighbors would fault you for clearing ice/snow from your car, I'm damn glad I don't live anywhere near where you drive. That's just plain stupid.
well if i was going to be driving on the interstate then yeah id clear it all off, but for just going around town, where i never exceed 30mph then im not really gonna worry about it, it usually warms up enough during the day to melt it away anyways.
and yeah, i don't like where i live, but its cheap and i only have to put up with it for another year

so a car length, in traffic that's pretty much at a dead stop, is too close? right. stop trying to justify yourself. clean off your damned car and quit being lazy.
besides - even the officer who showed up on the scene agreed that it was the fault of the guy in front of me...so did the witness that was RIGHT next to me on the road.
