NJ shops

Is there anyone in the central NJ area (around Old Bridge) that can recomend a good shop? I need to get my engine thoroughly checked out. I went to the bridgewater motorworks website and filled out the form for a quote, got a call back the next morning so they could find out what was wrong with the car. I explained to the guy that the engine won't rev past 4000 rpm (when it't supposed to be able to hit 5600) without getting all choked up and it has absolutely no power past that point. My problem is that he wants me to drop the car off on Thurs. afternoon and rent a car til he's done checking it out. He said he could either install a used 2000 model engine with 14k miles on it for 2300 and change or a jasper remanufactured one for about 3400 . Seems a bit expensive to me. Especially for a stock motor. I'd much rather have a rebuild with some performance work done, but unfortunately, I lack the facilities to do any of the work on my own. I am fairly new to this area and don't know of any places that do this kind of work. I just want to find out if I even need a rebuild without having to waste all kinds of money and time just getting it looked at.

Hey scarab, I will gladly rebuild it in my living room. When are you available to come and carry it up the stairs to my apartment? Hahaha. How's THAT for an excuse?!?! Lol.

NJHK: Definitely interested, or this thread would not exist. I don't think Linden's too far from here. I'm at exit 120 off the GSP, what exit is Linden? Should give me a basic idea of how far. Thanks

I'm exit 136, so you're not far away. Let me know if you want to meet up and I'll show you the place...preferably a Tuesday or Wednesday, that way I don't have my son with me (he's 4 months).

Wednesday's cool. I work til 4:30 though so I wouldn't be able to make it up there til like 6:00 or 7:00, just not sure exactly how long the ride would be. Guessing no longer than 30-45 min. though. Let me know if this works for you. Thanks

I live in Matawan. I little closer than Linded. Ever hear about a place called Straight Line Performance?
