Anyone ever have their license suspended in NY??
Tuesday, February 07, 2006 12:50 PM
I was just informed today that if you get 3 speeding tickets in an 18 month period in NY State, your licensce is then suspended for 6 months after the last ticket. I got 3 speeding tickets over spring-fall...the last one being on October 22. I was recently at the Dmv and my insurance agency and I haven't heard anything about my license being suspended, nor did I get anything in the mail about it. I thought I heard somewhere that they don't even notify you about it. I did go to class after the tickets to get the points reduced, but its not like that would eliminate the tickets right? So i'd like to know if my license really is suspended and if it is then why dont they inform you about it!? Any help is appreciated thank you.

i'd think it easier to just ask the people at the DMV that question, since they're the ones handling that information.

good luck figuring it out.

Well I don't wanna ask them in case they missed something, I have to drive to work and school every day.

if your recieved no notification, nothing on your licence says it (i have ny, it dont) then id say your OK for now.

heres a hint: at least until they blow over, DRIVE THE SPEED LIMIT!

Yeah I just looked at my insurance papers and it doesn't list any of the speeding tickets, only one from a stop sign that i missed and got a ticket for. I think im good for now but i'll still drive like an 80yr old lady til April 22nd.

Usually if your license gets suspended- they don't start the suspension until you actually mail in your license.

Well, I never got any kind of notice so I don't think I would've had to send in my license...

- and I don't even drive that fast I just have the worst luck...go figure I only get tickets in my cavalier, never when I'm driving my gf's car, mom's or my beater which I drive most of the year.

save your money, get an escort and never have to pay another ticket.

Funny, you could take that three different ways

No, not the car
No, not a person
Yes, the radar detector

I forget which model it is, but one you can connect a laser jammer too

Radar detectors won't prevent you from getting a ticket. There are so many ways they can still outsmart the detectors anymore. For instance getting hit with an 'instant on' burst or with a laser. Unless they target other cars in front of you with the radar you won't know the fuzz is there, and you wont know their shooting laser until your hit with it.

thats why you get the jammer too. I know there are other ways they can get you but damn, it sure lowers the instances.

damn that NY! i was coming home from visiting my buddy this past spring, its a 9 hour haul to my house, so i was flying to cut it down to like 6, which i did. But i got a ticket for 110 in a 50. Got a ticket, no big deal. then i get something in the mail like 4 months later saying if i get more than 3 tickets in an 18 month period i qualify to pay somethig else under a new law. basically i have to pay another 300 dollars ontop of my ticket. its either all up front or 100 a year over 3 years. god damn penny pinchers.NY can suck my arse

I actually thought it was 3 tickets in a 1 year period, but either way, you fall into it. They'll be suspending you soon. :-(
Did you contest any of them?

BTW, it takes a while for the tickets to show up on your record, and they won't suspend you until all three tickets show up.

First off, There are still alot of agencys that dont use laser yet. Espeically in NY.

Second off all, Instant on. or POP isnt fool proof in anyway and is easily detected by any advanced radar detector.

You are pretty much screwed unless u get a laywer to try and pull some @!#$.

MY buddy got three tickets and thery wern't even going that fast. He took a defensive driving course to reduce his points and it still got suspened. They told him that The point system doesnt effect there three ticket rule.
