Where to go for Alarm install????
Wednesday, December 28, 2005 6:55 PM
Anyone have suggestions for an install shop in Rochester, NY?? I bought a remote start / alarm and had some trouble installing it w/ my power doors. I don't have a garage and don't feel like waiting til the weather gets nicer.

Here's where I need you, my JBO brothers and sisters. Do you know of some honest and professional installers in Roch. NY. I have everything ready to go. Alarm & Bypass wired and ready, door actuators installed just not connected to battery. Looking for some input and suggestions before I call around. I don't want to spend hundreds for a simple install. I'll even take the dash and doors apart to speed up the process.

Thanks in advance for your suggestions.
Peace Out!

If you have a local Tweeter shop you can go there, they do good work.

Tweeter? Is that like Circuit City or Best Buy? I was just reading a Circuit City ad and they say that they'll install it no matter where you bought it. (I think I read it correctly). Anyone know if that's true? And how much would this cost?

Thanks for the suggestions.

what part did you have trouble with? If you know how to use a multimeter our cars are easy. especially with actuators. You may need a door lock relay like the one dei makes though. An alarm install is gonna run you a bit though just to be forewarned.

Thanks Sam, If I don't get it finished by then I'll let you know.

n8ball2013, I don't have a multimeter, yet (I have to go pick one up). I just used a 12volt tester. and tried to install my alarm w/ using that. Do I need to remove the steering wheel to install the alarm? It was suggested but I wanted to avoid that. I had the alarm hooked up but it would start and die (tried like 10 x). I might have had my wires crossed at some point. I don't have any relays so how would I use those.

I would like to do this myself, but after the last time I tried it wasn't successful. So without having a garage to work in and I don't want to chance messing up my car. It's the only one I have.

Thanks Everyone for you help and suggestions.
Peace Out!

you have to remove the shroud from around the base of the steering wheel for remote start. I just cant remember what wires go where. once you take that off you can get at the ignition wires from there too. With a multimeter it is much easier. do you have the remote start bypass?

Flame suit on: Please remember I'm still somewhat a Newb to all this. Please be gentle everyone!

I did have the shroud removed, but I think where my mistake was is I disconnected the harnesses (I marked them, so I knew where each one went), wired up the alarm and reconnected the harnesses. I did this a couple of times. I have the wiring diagrams but with the way I went about it I easily got my wires mixed up somewhere. The alarm did start but just didn't stay running. It was suggested to have the lower panel removed which If I read it correctly needs to have basically the whole dash and steering wheel removed. I just want a clean install and I kinda want to do this myself.

Another question, I have the 5 wire actuators on my car. if I get some relays, how would I go about wiring these up (to work w/ the alarm). Some detailed instructions, Please. Below are what I spent my money on, so this is what I'm going to put in the car for the time being.

remote start / alarm system

Thanks again everyone for all your help and suggestions!

the door lock relay is simple I believe. I cant see the diagram very well though. Two wires are 12 volt right? and two are ground with a lock and unlock. Can you give me a detail of what wire does what? also are the acuators a positive or negative.
Also the passlock module. the ground gets tapped into the black passlock wire and the other passlock wire gets cut. Then the two wires from the module go to either side I just cant remember what ones go where. After it is all installed you will have to program it. check the manual bro. does the alarm arm and disarm ok? if so then your power wires are all connected right. it probably doesnt start due to the passlock module.

I think that's how it goes, all I know is that this thing (door lock) has 5 wires. The instructions don't say + or - so I'm not sure. Is there any way to tell, otherwise?

Here's what the instructions say: Install for Central Door Locking System
In some car mechanism, reversed actuator wires, is required for normal function. For
2-wire actuator, switch green (blue) - green (blue) and blue (red) - blue (red) to green (blue) - blue (red) and blue (red) - green (blue). Repeat this step for white (purple) / brown (brown) wires for 5- wire actuator if required.

I've tried every combination, and it wanted to stay in the unlock position. I would move it to the lock position and it would go back to unlock.

For the passlock it's a 4 wire hook up. Brown (connect to ground output when running wire of remote start system), violet (connect to vehicle violet data wire pin #2 of diagnostic connector), orange (constant 12 volt) & black (connect to chassis ground).

As for the alarm, it arms and disarms, starts but cuts out. and I need to figure out the door situation so I can have that function too. Hopefully I can figure this out so I can finish this install this weekend.

Thanks for all your help everyone, especially n8ball2013!

Peace Out!

Yea, I'm about to start looking into getting an alarm for my car. I live outside of Rochester, but go to college in Oswego. If I have some luck before you do I'll let you know.

ok the door locks the blue and green do the lock unlock. what those directions say you've got me bro. it doesnt make much sense to me. for the remote start portion of it it doesnt sound like its learned the vehicle code to me. try remote starting it with the key in the ignition and see what it does.

back to the door locks. is there any wires that have an inline fuse? That will help me out a ton.
Re: Where to go for Alarm install????

Yeah, those door lock directions still have me guessing and I don't recall there being any inline fuses anywhere on it.

I will hopefully try to reinstall this thing this weekend. When I ordered it, it had T-taps and butt connectors wired and ready to go. Today I cut all of those off and have my ends ready to splice I did this out of fear that I might just have some bad connections. When I hook it up I'll do like you suggested and try remote starting w/ the key in the ignition.

I won't disconnect the harness' like I did last time. I was thinking of removing the driver seat, so I can lay down and not have to be all contorted so I can keep everything connected and test, splice, connect, wrap, etc, etc.

Any tips on using a multimeter?

Thank You so much Bro!

if you have a basic knowledge of a multimeter then you are good. if you need any help on how to test a certain wire i can help you there. if those were DEI parts bro i would have had you up and running by now. they should make wire colors a standard throughout.

Re: Where to go for Alarm install????

All I have is a 12 volt tester. No multimeter yet, I'll pick one up tomorrow after work. Any tips or tricks to using this thing? Standard color wires would make it too easy for everyone and they can't have that.

As for the door locks, I might hold off on those for now. I just want the alarm install completed and when I get those doors figured out I'll wire them up later.

Thanks again for all your help, n8ball2013!!

just make sure when you test things that you have a good ground for the meter . if you dont it will act funny. read higher read lower not read at all.

Is there a certain reading I should see on the meter's display? I never used one before.

This' the meter I'm picking up from Harbor Freight. http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/Displayitem.taf?itemnumber=92020

Sorry for all the questions, and all the info has been really helpful.

Thanks.

holy @!#$ bro i forgot something. did you use a tach wire for the remote start signal? If not that could be why it cranks but doesnt start up. it doesnt know when the vehicle is started. that meter should be fine. i owna craftsman picked it up at sears for less than 30 bucks.
