I finaly got a stream of ideas for my 2nd gen. This thing will be unlike anything ever seen before (at least as far as finished 2nd gen cavies go). But, my idea would work a lot better if i could cancel out the side markers. Is there any legalities that say I need a blinker on the side? if so, where does it need to be? I could just get one on the rear of the front fender (apc style, but i'll do better). This is for ny by the way.

well man im not sure about ny but pa im pretty sure if its stock it has to be there or replaced, but we get away with it as long as the front turn signals can cast light on the side alil they wont say anything, hell i got 92' accord bumper lenses in the front for turn signals and audi a6 quartro side markers all with clear bulbs (illegal) and never had one word said to me, and they are bright as @!#$ and i have no rear side markers and i know thats illegal!
heh, my rear sides have been blown since ive owned the car, go figure. The front wont be able to be seen, kinda hard to explain. Maybe I'll just have to get extremely creative and go for something even harder than what I planned on.

Yes, you can put one on the fender in NY. You only need one up front, and one visible from the side. Rear side markers aren't needed, and its not illegal to not have them. If that were so, how would all the cars that didn't come with them from the factory be legal to drive?
very sweet, this gives me a lot of room to play around.

Those older cars are grandfathered, which is why they can get away with it. Granted, i'm not sure either way on whats legal or not, but i know my 91 prelude had to have a 3rd brake light because it came with one from the factory (it had been in a spoiler which i had removed), even though my 91 Tracker didn't have one and passed for it. Of course thats also in Jersey, where common sense need not apply.
I'd check with your local motor vehicle office to make sure you know right from them what's legal and what isn't. You can call or email them and they should be able to put you into contact with someone who can answer your questions.
