EXHAUST SHOP WARNING !!!!!!
Monday, October 10, 2005 3:37 PM
I made a HUGE mistake saturday. I took my '04 Cavalier to "EXTREME EXHAUST and
MUFFLER " to get the high flow exhaust system installed on my car. I brought them a
2 1/2 inch flex pipe, a 2 1/2 inch MagnaFlow cat, a 2 1/2 inch resonator, and all the nessacary parts to put it on my car with the PaceSetter header I got from Alex. I insalled the header as Rob the owner doesn't mess with headers. No biggie we removed all the old pipeing and I removed the stock manifold and installed the header. Then Rob got to work on building the exhaust system. First problem I saw was he made the pipe from the header to the flex joint too long so it actualy hangs down below the frame. I showed Rob and he said he couldn't get it any higher up. BS I even showed him how he could do it and he said" Yeah I guess". But he kept going added the flex pipe and the cat, OOOPS he cut them tooo short so he just welded on new pipe and put the O2 sensor bung in. OOOPs he messed up the bung so he cuts off the pipe he just welded on and then welds another bung to the pipe hey that worded but OOOPS he broke my O2 sensor. "Must have been cracked already" he said then he proceeds to weld on the rest of the exhaust pipeing ........CROOKED !!!!! Then he couldn't get the over the axle pipe to fit right so he wound up welding the pipes together just infront of the axle
and it resembles the letter "V" when I said something I was told " No thats straight"
But because of how "STRAIGHT" it was they needed to pry on the passenger side muffler BRAKEING the back of the muffler where the pipe goes in. Then my car came down and I was told " ALL DONE " I started it up and said it sounded like there was a leak and I was told "No its just the header" I didn't find out about the broken muffler till I went to another muffler shop to ask a second opinion. They found the broken muffler and 2 welds that weren't finshed so I had 3 BIG exhaust leaks. I took it back today and the guy Rob tried to fix the mess that he made but couldn't and since it was almost 5 he didn't even want to be bothered. He welded up the muffler he broke and told me a new one was $50.00 I said he broke it and he said it must have been allready bad. Don't forget I had to buy a new O2 sensor since it was broken when it came in.

Everyone steer clear from this shop !!!! They can do old Camaros and thats about it

Does anyone ANYONE at all in the Maryland area know a GOOD exhaust shop that may be able to salvage this mess I have under my car???

I AM SO PISSED RIGHT NOW ITS NOT EVEN FUNNY !!!!!

Please If anyone knows somewhere that can help me please let me know. Right now my car sounds like a sick honda with an exhaust leak.

BBB Better Business Buero(SP) make a complaint because you should have 30 days if you are not pleased they should fix it. Get another quote for the job from another shop and tell the current shop they gotta pay to fix wut they messed up.

You can keep on complaining and im sure eventually they will fix it, i wouldnt leave them alone with the car though, they might do something to it.

When i got my exhaust done the place was very cool, custom downpipe with flange, only problem is the pipe over the axle has a dent/kink in it but other then that they did a great job. "Discount Muffler / Tire".

I know it won't really help at all, and I am accross the country from you, but anyways, that really sucks about your exhaust. I just had my exhaust redone. The place I went to was great. I brought them my car because the middle of my exhaust was hanging way too low, so I asked them what they could do, they said that they could maybe bring it up a half inch. Well, they said it would take 45 mins to get it all done, so I left and got some coffee and come back 40 mins later to see my car all done and sitting on the ground again. They had cut all my exhaust pipe out after the cat and they made me a new pipe. It was only 40 bucks. Here are the results. Oh, and sorry for the rambling.

They were able to bend a single pipe to fit my car perfectly. Sorry again about your exhaust, and I hope you get it fixed soon.

Well joy of joys i got pulled over this morning on my way to work. The cop thought my exhaust was falling off its so low, luckily I knew him so I didn't get a ticket. So I went back to the shop that screwed me and tried to have them fix it but even when I offered to pay for them to cut it all off and re-do it all......... he refused. Sooo I went to the shop accross the street called MARVINS MUFFLER WORKS and they laughed when they put it up in the air. They told me to cut out all the pipe work thats there and re-do it the
CORRECT way would run me $250.00 but that they can salvage all the parts that Rob fuc-ed up. So I guess I'm gonna be there at 7:30 saturday morning to get it fixed, wish me luck.

Oh and Fenix I went to Tony's they said they were too busy to even look at it. They came off as real pricks ! Totaly not your fault but I just wanted you to know I did take your advice.

Terry - the only reason they were rude to you in the first place was because you showed up without calling first.

you can't expect them to drop everything and look at your vehicle. they're one of the best shops around for the price you pay.

...and the reason i say this? i don't want your first impression of them to be the only impression this board has. they saved me $120 on my install, because he didn't feel right changing my piping when i already had a stainless catback on the car. THAT, to me, is a damned good shop...they have my business as long as i live in the state.

Fenix, Oh I know that I didn't mean to make them sound bad and if I did I'm certainly sorry. I guess it was just the guy I talked to thats all. I know they're busy and I don't expect everything be dropped for my car I'm not unreasonable at all fact is I'm usualy pretty easy going and laid back. I try not to let things bother me cause theres no point in getting mad and starting to carry on all that does is make you look like an idiot. I
would have waited as long as it took but this skinny guy was like yeah and what do you want so I told him the problem and he goes "and" so I was like never mind sorry to have wasted your time and with that he turned back around and went back into the shop. Now true he may have been haveing a bad day or he may have just smashed his finger or something I don't know but he seemed like he had a problem so I rolled. I know they do good work and I know they don't charge a ton of cash for it, but I don't know the guy just came off wrong I guess.

Disclaimer: I am in no way bashing Tony's exhaust I'm just relateing an experence I had with one of the guys there. Tony has been in the custom exhaust bizz for more then 20 years and is well know for quality work at a reasonible price.

Gotta say Tony's is the best aroound, I been going there for since I was 16 (ten years).
Never had a problem. There always packed because there the best custom guy around. And there price's are great. If you do't mind the wait I would check them out.

There is also a guy on Rt 40 in Catonsville behind Mank Automotive, The do great
custom work also. The owner use to work for Tony years ago and started his own shop.
I don't recall the name of the shop. It's near Rt 40 and rolling rd.

Still it doesn't give the guy the right to come off as an @!#$. I don't care if your the only game in town. If your an @!#$ to me I'll take my buisness elsewhere.

There is no replacement for good customer service, something that is hard to find around today. Every good mechanic I know has always been willing to take 10 minutes to check something out. Not only is it nice to the customer, but it also opens an opportunity for a possible sale.

As Jackalope said he spent $250.00 having it fixed. That's $250 that Tony's doesn't have now becuase one of their employees wasn't willing to check out the problem. While that may be the only @!#$ in the shop. Jackalope didn't choose to use them becuase of that one guy.

/\ /\ /\ I do agree that customer service is a BIG deal as I too work in customer service I guess I expect others that work with the public to treat people the way I treat people when I'm at work. I do realize Tony's is a very busy shop and no I didn't want them to drop everything and run out to my car like lost puppies. But I will have to say that where
Rascal seems a bit harsh hes reason for my not going to Tony's is 100% correct. I'm not going to patonize a shop and give them my hard earned money when they act like gods gift to the world and other equally good places are out there. This is why I'm going to Marvins Muffler Works tomorrow to get it fixed and not Tony's. Now I do know that Tony does excellent work but he won't be getting my money.

Its a shame realy that becuase of 1 miserable employee of his now I have a bad taste in my mouth when it comes to his shop. EVEN THO I know they do outstanding work.
Funny huh?
