Where can i find performance chips?
Tuesday, June 21, 2005 8:01 AM
I have a 99 sunfire 2.2L and i was looking to get a performance chip for my car. However, after recent forums, and discussions, i am unsure what to get. I am looking for a chip that would eliminate my governor & increase horsepower/torque. I know some manufacturers such as JET Chip, Superchips, Hypertech, Mantapart, and Max RPM. I would like to find out if any of these chips are worth getting, or if possible another route i can take. Thanks

As far as third gens I think you could of only gotten one for a 95 since they were still the OBDI. I remember seeing them on the Mantapart site years ago.

Have a good one,
Justin

I figured this would happen. So basically i just have to go another route such as upgrading the ignition, throttle body, heads, etc. etc. Would anyone know how to remove your governor? Like re-programming the computer?

our computers arent chippable (sp?) all it is, is a cheap 15 cent part from radio shack. also why do you need to eliminate the governer? So you can go mad fast on the highway yo. its stupid and pointless.

no one here is gonig to tell you that. no need to to go 108 mph unless you are going that fast in the 1/4 mile. but by then, you should know enough about your car to alrady know how to do it

Actually I thought the vss also was linked to the odometer.... so if he disabled that then yes it is illegal. Also wouldnt that trip the check engine light. I know in NYS if that light is on the car has to go though a more rigeros inspection..... not to mention if the odometer isnt working no trade in value ever nada zip zero...... well i think thats what i read someplace else on this board anyway......

Yeah the only 3rd Gens that were chippable were the 95's... anything 96 and newer is not chippable... you'd have to send your computer out for reprogramming I believe.

You could invest in a pulley kit or a 4-2-1 header to get some of that get up and go power.
