MD State Troopers can see in the dark
Tuesday, June 07, 2005 2:50 PM
Has anyone else been following this. Md State Troopers had some grant money and used it to purchase Night Vision goggles as part of the State's Click it or Ticket Campaign.

Gov Erlich has been recieving a lot of strife for this because a lot of people ( Myself included) feel this is just a little bit overkill. There's supposed to be a hearing of some sort in Annapolis this week to recolve the matter.

What Do you think?

Me personally I think it's overkill. I mean if the State has that much $$$ they can buy Night Vision equip to catch seat belt violators ship some of that to Baltimore to help us with real crime. Dont get me wrong Wearing your seatbelt is important ******I Repeat wearing seatbelts saves lives..ahem

But umm Geez... I dont see Troopers chasing drug dealers or shooters in the dark.

So If youre on the Beltway a lot, even at night, I hope your seatbelts are on or your windows have limo tint.

I watched some of a segment about that on the news the other night.

I am not sure, I bet they could of used the funds for something better than the night vision but it will help people understand to buckle up.

Have a good one,
Justin

I am just gonna plaster my body with cold mud like Arnold did on the "Predator". I bet the Trooper will freak out when there is no heat signal...lol.

J/K...but it is a little overkill!

while i find the night vision stuff a little much, i think it's a good thing.

they're debating this on one of my corolla forums...and one guy's trying to prove how NOT wearing a seatbelt saves lives.

i think he's on crack.

in very few instances it does...but not enough to not wear your seatbelt....a friend of mine was killed on bull road like 2 or 3 weeks ago, if she wouldnt have had her seatbelt on she would have had a slightly better chance of surviving

Night Vision doesnt work when they are exposed to regular light such as headlights so i dont see how it would help them see inside a car, plus the detail sucks.

Boardorgohome I was there at that Accident a seatbelt on or off would not have mattered in that case it was a bad accident either way sorry to say. but seatbelts do save lives. and in some case's they due kill but you need to concider alot of facts.

I think they could use the money for something else.

As far as seatbelts, they didnt help me in my accident. And if it wasn't for my best friend NOT having hers on, she would have a hood corner in the head!

if the corner of your hood is coming through the windshield your car is not working properly sorry, the hood is supposed to buckle in the middle and make the hood NOT do that. bet you love aftermarket hoods now that that has happened?

On the other hand....you have other fingers.

i had lots of toys when i was young.slinky,etc.but once i found my penis, that was all she wrote

lol...that's why fiberglass and carbon fiber hoods say FOR OFF ROAD USE ONLY(or something to that effect).

normally, every time you change something on the car you're compromising safety - you're looking to enhance looks or performance, and don't pay attention to bumping up safety features as well...so don't blame the belts.

Actually it was a non tuned car, so it was a factory hood. An accord that an F150 hit at high speed. She was pinned to the floor and came out with broken bones, but shes still alive thank god! Don't just assume all my friends try to hook their cars up!

night vision dont work on heat. what it does is take the exsisting light that there is and aplfies it by like 10000

i'm just going to bite my tongue.

i WILL say this, however - just because people have aftermarket hoods and bumpers doesn't mean it's "tuned" - cosmetic modifications DO NOT mean the car is tuned.

Well this was just a factory pos. You two still both assumed. And Im sure if you saw the pictures of her and/or the car you wouldn't have laughed about it!

1 - i didn't assume anything - i went off what he said.

2 - i never laugh when someone gets into a near fatal accident. i've lost too many people to the stupidity of a. street racers, b. lack of seatbelts, and c. drunk drivers to laugh at someone else's misfortune.

now. stop assuming i'm out to get you, or make fun of you.

ANY high speed accident has the real possibility of being fatal - seat belts tend to reduce those odds most of the time. i will admit there's a rare occurrance where the person's better off for NOT wearing them, but that is very - VERY - rare.

You went off what he said, he doesn't know me and assumed, therefor you did too. I never ever said I thought you were out to get me, Im just tired of the comments every time I say something.

This girl was only 17, her lung collapsed, broken femur and sternum, her teeth got @!#$ up etc. Now she walks with a limp and a metal rod in her leg and has had god knows how many surgerys. It was sad to see and something that really did make me realize that either way your still risking it. When its your time to die, its your time. Thank god that wasn't hers!

hey, you earn most of the comments...but i DID say i'd bite my tongue, so i'll maintain my silence.

it's a shame that happened to your friend, but ACCIDENTS HAPPEN...the only way to avoid them is to sit in one's house in fear. that's not feasable - therefore, every time you get in your car, you're putting yourself in harm's way. she got lucky.

Oh and btw, I didn't mean the whole thing for you. And you gotta understand that you were 2nd to write after him. Some people are sick enough to laugh at those who get in accidents in a modified car, esp if they think it's street racing!

Re: MD State Troopers can see in the dark

I have had a friend that should have been Killed twice in car accidents. and both times he didn't have his seat belt on. The most recent one it probably would helped him more. but there isn't a whole lot it could have done when a tractor trailer hits you doing over 65 miles per hour. As for the whole night vision is say They would have spent more money for the equipment that the 50 bux for the ticket wouldn't have been worth the expense they just went thru to purchase 100 or more goggles. And as Rc said And I am a really really firm believer in When it is your time it is your time weather you have your seat belt on or not. And as for sitting in your house cringing may not be any safer than being in your car. To many factors are to be considered with everything. For every action there is an equal or greater consequences to follow.
