I know I have read a lot about the new NY inspection, bt I was just wondering if anyone knows if my car will pass with the ABS light on?? I know what is wrong with it (the ABS sensor got smashed while removing the brakes), I just don't want to spend the $100 or so to get it fixed if it will pass. Thanks.
I smashed mine doing my clutch last year, Im assuming the ansewer is no but like I said, thats just my assumption.

... hmm, I didn't think that it would pass either, so I called around and I was told that it sould be fine. I'll let you all know soon though because my inspection is at 8:30 tomorrow morning. I hope you are wrong lol.
You could always open up the cluster and stick a couple of pieces of electical tape over the back of the ABS sign so it doesn't light up, but I'd fix the sensor very soon.

that wont work anymore. we have a new inspection in NY where they plug into the computer, and it sends all the data to Albany, so its hard to get around anything anymore.
I need to find someone who will pass me with an aftermarket wheel. i also need an airbag simulator to get rid of the light

Man, I'm glad I don't live in Albany anymore!

^^not sure what ya mean, but all of NY has the new inspection. when you plug it in the computer, it tells if you have any CEL lights or anything on the dash, bad emissions, basically anything that the computer would know, the inspection will show

Eazy, do you know where to get a air bag sim? I need one as well.
<a href="http://nystreetscene.com">http://nystreetscene.com</a>
i just did my inspection at my shop. the system is for all of NY state, its gotta connect to your computer and send your info along with the VIN and all the info from the computer to albany. if the light is on, any service/CEL, your F*CKED. nobody can pass you. if its something small, find a friend, or bribe the tech at a mom and pop shop.

actually, you're only gonna fail if the mil (malfunction indicator lamp, or cel) is on. even if it's off and the pcm is commanding it on you'll fail. abs lights and air bag lights WILL NOT fail you. trust me, i just took my nys inspector test and passed with a 95 (missed 1 question) i even took a course on the stuff and have a regs book in my room if you have anymore questions. if the abs or air bag lights are on you pass but the inspection station has to tell you they're on and how it's recommended you get the problems resolved. the reason abs will not fail you is because your brakes will still work fine without it. it's a separate system added on to your hydraulic brake system. as long as your hydraulic brakes (service brake) works fine you'll be alright, abs or not. if you've got anymore questions feel free to hit me on aol (sykeeok02cav) or email me (sykeeok02cav@hotmail.com)

good question
above
GOT ECOTEC?
sykeeok was right, sorry it took me so long to post but my car wasn't inspected when it was supposed to be (due to girlfiend shutting off the alram clock). My car passed even though the light was on, however they didn't say anything about fixing it. Not that it really matters though. Just for the record it was at Midas so I doubt it was a mistake or a favor!
well i put in new struts this weekend, and as soon as i was done, and turned the car on, i now have a ABS light, service light, and Trac off light. and i need my inspection by the end of this month.
wonder if I will pass with all those lights on.
just to recap, that means i have the following lights on - ABS, Trac off, Service, and Airbag

eazy, maybe you accidentally crimped the wires going to your abs sensor? or maybe forget to recconect it? i would check that out first. cheaper to fix it and be sure you'll pass the first time, then to pay another 37 bucks to have it re-done. tech's get paid whether you pass or fail, so they dont give a rats azz!
side note- NOT ALL SHOPS HAVE SWITCHED OVER YET. MOST MOM AND POP SHOPS PROBABLY HAVENT. you can go there, and they can put another car on the dyno for the emissions test, if you bribe them enough i guess.
