I'm looking for the 3rd and 4th gears out of the 2.2 Isuzu manual tranny to swap into my 2.4 Isuzu for the closer gear ratios.
I'm just hoping that someone has an old tranny laying around and is willing to sell just the gears. If you aren't willing to just sell the gears I would be willing to buy the tranny too.

i have an 98 isuzu the diff went i think, i can't get the case to come apart, if you know how to get the case apart and how the gears come out pm me with a kinda step by step and you can have the gears..
They are a pain to get apart, but the main thing that holds them together are little pill shaped pieces of metal that keep it from sliding out of gear when you don't want it too. There are three bolts that go into the side of the housing, and look like they bolt to nothing, they are lined up with each other, and lined up with the three shift fork shafts. You have to unbolt those three bolts, and use a magnet to pull a spring and a ball bearing out of each one.
Then comes the hard part, the little pill shaped pieces are also in there, but you have to get the shafts lined up just right to get them to fall out. I basically just messed around with it for about half an hour and they finally came out.
If you look on the right side of this picture, there are three grooves in each of the three shafts, the ball bearings and pill shaped pieces ride in those grooves. So if you imagine where those would be with the cover on', that's where the three bolts should be. The picture is of a 2.4 tranny, so the bell housing is a bit different, but the gears are basically the same.
I can get you more pictures tomorrow, to better describe what you need to do.

These are the ball bearings, pill shaped pieces and the springs that are down in the three holes, along with the three bolts that hold them in.
And here you can see the three holes, they are right next to the speed sensor, and shifter mechanism. You can also see that they line up with the three holes that go through the top of the housing, the three shafts above slide through those three holes.

I have a 91 storm GSi trans that I just bought for the final drive. I think that 3rd and 4th is the same?
Nah they are different, I've got a storm tranny sitting in my garage too. Those springs and bearings are actually from the Storm tranny.

So what is the difference? Everything I'm seeing is that they are the same? I am more interested in third gear than any thing else, the taller the better. It looks like the 1.45 in the 2.2 is about as good as I'm getting. Bob Guptil found a 1.52 which would be better but doesn't know what it came out of? Thanks
Ok so I've confused myself a bit, I'm pretty sure I have the SOHC Storm tranny after going out and measuring my gear ratios.
3rd is 1.29, and 4th is 0.927, and it has an FDR of 3.27. Weird...
So you were right, I was just getting confused.
I have a line on gears from a 2.2 locally, if they fall through I'll let you know. But in the mean time, how much do you want for the gears? Thanks

ok now you have me confused? 3rd and 4th gears should be (about) the same 2.2ohv=storm DOHC=stormSOHC I got most of this from here.

I don't have this tore apart yet as I want to order a LSD also while I have everything tore apart. I have $141 in this trans so If your interested I would not want that much for them. Let me know if you are interested.
Well then I don't know what the hell tranny I have... it was listed as a 93 Storm, and it's definitely an isuzu, but it had the same ratios as my 2.4, but a different FDR.
I bought it for the diff though, I was just hopping I had the gears I wanted already.

if i can get them out. free + shipping. im heading to my garage now and imma mess with it a little. You dont have an extra storm diff or diff gears? i would trade the gears + give you some cash for a diff.
I'm using the storm diff in my 2.4 tranny rebuild. And after doing some measuring the gear ratios in my Storm tranny are the same as the 2.4 ratios, just with a 3.27 FDR, which is crazy low, so I'm not sure if you want anything out of it.
The local guy won't respond to me anymore, so if you can get the gears out I'll take them from you for sure.

i got them out, do you want the to big shafts with the gears on them? that's what i got out, i dont know how to take the gears completely apart and dont want to because i think i'll get them mixed up.
Yup, the two big shafts with the synchros and gears on them.
