Hey everyone,
I just picked up a 96 GMC Jimmy SLS. Got it for a good price, but it needs a few things. Most likely a crank position sensor, and like all vortec 4.3's the spider is probably all jacked up. I can handle all of that, but it has a weird vibration above 20mph. I think it is coming from the back end based on what i can hear and feel. I know it also needs work on the back brakes.
Problem is, I am originally from CT, so most of my tools and place to work on it are 3 hours away.
My proposition:
Help me remedy the vibration and work on the back brakes.
I provide Free beverages (over 21 and its a 30 pack of bud, lager etc)
Food while helping
My thanks for the assist
or
obviously cash talks as well, but i may be more hands off if beer isn't involved
Thanks in advance!
ive been seeing alot of jimmys and stuff like that with bad u-joints and it caused that problem. check them first
Bring it down here to my place, i got tools, jack stands and a jack, a garage

Not to insult your intelligence, but i start with the simplest things first - wheel out of balance?
I thought about that too. Most of the time I have had a wheel out of balance it was a problem in a certain range. This one once it starts the vibration stays. I was thinking about finding a cheap place to check that but the tires on it are crap so I wanted to see if i could find some good tires for it first..
I appreciate the offer to help Joker, I can get the wheels checked out before hand, but yeah those brakes need Jesus.....
let me know all i gotta do is move the Regal out

Joker,
I will def let you know, looking like mid week may be best for me.
FYI I changed out the rims for my 16" gta rims off my firebird, the vibration did not go away which rules out the wheel balance.
It feels more like the back driver side. When I changed the tires over i looked at the brakes, they didnt look bad, good shoes and pads, no uneven wear. The axles did have some play though, as far as up and down shaking not in and out so much. I know on the front that would mean ball joints etc but on the back I assume that would mean wheel bearings.
I still want to look into u joints though, because i would rather unbolt 4 11mm bolts than take apart the rear to do axles
Thoughts?
all i can think of is the bearings or a bent axle. i have Wed. and sundays free since i work for a car dealer again i gotta be there on sat.'s

ya im putting my guess at u joints
I will be looking to get this fixed probably early next week, oddly enough, since I changed the rims over the vibration diminishes when I hit the brakes at speed, so it may be a case where the brakes are playing a part. I am looking at new shoes and drums along with probably looking into the cylinders as well.
the u joints arent too expensive so changing them out shouldnt be too bad anyways.
Not looking forward to changing axel bearings just ick...
