does anybody know what the difference is in a 97 z24 and the 2.2ohv? was talking to someone and they told me that it had more of a subframe. call me slow, im just not sure. gonna put the 3400 in my 97 2.2 ohv and ive read the threads, havent seen anybody that had to reinforce the subframe. just curious.

Nothing, well other than the transmission, wiring harness, ecu and motor mounts.

Most Z's have a front Sway bar also. I'm sure you know the body has different bumpers and sides, and the inteior goes to a Z interior with better seats and colors.

bumpers, ecu, motor, harness, transmission, stuff like that. but what about under the hood without the motor, harness, tranny? what im getting at is i had a guy tell me that in order to put a V6 in the place of the 2.2ohv i would have to reinforce the subframe. he swore by it and said the it would not hold the 3400. i have read the threads for the 3800 and that is the only time youve got to reinforce it.

I've never heard of reinforcing the subframe for the 3400, even in the second gens. Like everyone else said... the difference between a base model and a Z24 is the motor, trans (and thats subjective because its the same trans used with the ecotec as well (2000 + F23 Getrag (99 and older can swap to it with new trans-mounts)), ecu, wiring harness, aero-bumpers/skirts, foglights, interior (sunroof, radio, red and black cloth, tilt steering wheel, etc). The subframe is part of what makes it a J-body, and that hasn't changed.

My Z didn't come with a front strut bar, i had to get one off the convertible model.

EDIT: i mentioned the manual trans... in case anyone was wondering
