Need a cheap 2.4L for build up. bad engine = good!

I have a 2002 Z24, and my engine is going on me.... I figure i have a few months before things get fatal. So in that time i want to find another 2.4L engine and start a re-build. that way when mine goes, i have a nice re-built one ready to swap out.

i would prefer an engine from an 00-02... just as that is what mine is... but for the right price i would consider a 96-00...

I want something cheap, either high milage and working... or engines with problems (rod knock, spun bearing etc)

(unless you have something great at a reasonable price like perfect running 45k 2002 engine for $600) I am not looking to spend more than a few hundred on a on the engine.

The only reason i am buying another engine and not just working on my own, is so i can keep driving my car in the mean time. any more than a couple hundred bucks, and i might as well just buy a beater and drive it while i rebuild my own engine.

So if anyone has a dead, dying, or sickly 2.4L (or a healthy one you just done want anymore) please let me know!

(whole cars are fine too as long as they are cheap)

my poor baby is sick... someone help me...
(2.4L engine in my cavy is ticking bad... need to make it stop)

i'm about to do an eco swap, i will have my 2.4 out of my 01 early march. i rebuilt it about 4300 miles ago. i spun a bearing, twice, so i replaced the crank, rods and pistons and the lifters. its been running great ever since. i also have a 2.4 out of a 97 but its completely torn apart. it had a spun bearing too, so most likely everything needs replaced, it had 130xxx miles on it. if you wanna buy some time with your current engine, replace the rod bearings...if its ticking bad, thats most likely the cause. just pull off the oil pan and oil pump and replace them. its about a 3 hour job max if you know what you are doing. thats a quick fix and will last about 4 months if your crank isnt too messed up from your current spun bearing. (assuming you have a spun bearing)

im about 2.5 hours south of cleveland and my buddy has a 2.4 from his 00z. he was selling the whole car, but the buyer backed out and so he might part it out. if thats the case, he has the engine and transmission (5 spd) tranny works fine and the engine spun a bearing, but had been replaced or rebuilt a few thousand miles ago (i'll get the details from him--i cant remember which). the engine/tranny combo would be sold as a whole and would be absolutely perfect for what you are looking for since you could build both while they were out. let me know if that sounds like something you would be interested in.

coming back in 2008...
