audio help

My gf has a 2001 z24 and we are thinking of installing a set of subs and an amp. The problem is, when we went to install a set of rockford speakers we encountered a problem. We didn't understand the wiring layout. I have a haynes book for the 95+ models, but it doesn't give specifics about the types. The way the wiring works is 4 sets of wires go to one speaker ( as opposed to 2 wires per speaker) and we are lost as to how to hook up the new speakers. Therein lies the next problem, hooking up the subs in my 2003 and my sisters truck was simple, we followed the two wires for each side no problem, but with the 2 extra wires per speaker in my gf's z24 we really have no clue what we would need to do.

If anyone can tell me why there are 4 wires per speaker, and how they hooked up their a/m speakers and subs and amp that would be great. Also, we are sticking with her OEM cd unit so if anyone out there has done this, please help me out.

Goodluck with that...idk where to even start. I would say make it simple by buying a aftermarket deck for like 50-100 bucks...sorry

well you have to use a line-out converter of course, and then just try the different wires and see what works..mine rear deck speakers only have 2 wires. good luck

just test two wires at a time for the rear deck speakers thats what i did and they work fine as far as the amp to the oem radio i do not know if it is possible

Well, she really likes her stock deck......so thats out... Mike your speakers are like mine then, hers (so I've been told) are set up to run a Surround sound setup. Thats why it has 4 wires... I have yet to see proof of this as my book says nothing.

Jons: thanks for the tip, we may just try that, as for the oem deck I'm pretty sure it works it will just take some extra splicing...

Thank you all for your help and well wishing, if anyone else has stuff to add....PLEASE DO! It will be a few months before we start working on it (we have to pay for Projekt Revolution and a 3 day hotel stay before we think about modding her car).

You think so? Well she mainly wants a little bit of bass, not glass shaking/shattering bass.

Oh yea, splicing will greatly reduce the amount of bass....for example i got a free wire kit for my subs 2 12" kicker comps...and i run a dual 1000 wat amp, so i should be able to run my subs to the full amount 400-500 watts each. But im only running 10g wire, right there im loosing about 200 watts. This is what my local audio guy has told me...im just to lazy to go and get the bigger wire and change it all

I see, so if I want to max sound out of my equipment, I would need to upgrade all the wiring in the car?
