Ohio roads in the winter
Saturday, November 04, 2006 9:28 PM
I just thought I would ask other people around here if there area is as bad as mine for salting. First snow fall nothing on the ground sticking and driving to work felt like i was on a gravel road. A 10 min drive gave my car a new look its almost solid white with salt. I mean come on you dont need that much salt, im going to have to wash the wheel wells to get the chunks of salt that are up in there. Sorry just had to vent, and see what u guys feel.

We use brine up here now, no salt on the roads to kick up, until it gets wet from melting. usually it's gone with the runoff and isn't a real big issue. I'm still getting spikes for the winter though, just in case.

They dont like to use salt quite as much up by the lake. I'm sure there's a lot of envirnomentalistst whining about the salt draining off in to the lake of fresh water.

Depends where you're at man. Around me they dont seem to like to be able to afford things like, salt, snowplows, or overtime. So jack @!#$ gets done with roads most of the time it seems like.

I live around Ashland and Norwalk area, we've used brine for years now, its a cheap and actually better working product than the regular salt. They just lay it down before a forcasted storm, and usually the ice and snow dont have a chance to stick.

Toledo & Lucas county use Brine before a storm and salt after. When the brine is first layed down that @!#$ is as slick as ice though.

Marion and Morrow county use ALOT of salt. I try to wash my car at least a couple times during the winter, but the next day it looks just like it did before washing it.
