New guy from findlay

Just heard about this site so thought I would check you out. Looks pretty good so far, I drive a '03 cavi sedan. It's my black beauty! It's got the rksport dual exhaust, an ecu upgrade, and an aem cold air intake (blue). Also some sweet looking euro lights and 8000k Blue head light bulbs, if you want a pair cheap check ebay, I found some on there for as little as 8 bucks (13 with shipping!) Yeah so anyway, I'm looking for any body upgrades as well as any upgrades that will boost my power, so if you have any that you dont want or you know of some good places to shop let me know. Any body in or around findlay that wants to meet up some time, drop me a line, I dont mind talking to people, and learning new stuff is always good.

I dont normally go to tiffen, so unless you mean the findlay mall I'm afraid that's impossible.

Also, not to double post, but this goes out to anyone in ohio, I'm looking for good trustworthy shops to do some of the heavier jobs on my car, I like doing the work myself but sometimes it's just better to have it done pro.

I'm from Findlay. I live a couple blocks down the road from the new wal-mart. (I think my profile still says McComb, I just moved) I got a nice 3400 swap and a couple other things. There's a place in Van Buren that'll do some work. Bit pricey, but I'm sure they'll do the work. Hocasons. (sp?) My buddy has his MR2 there getting the engine rebuild/upgraded since his oil pump died and trashed the engine.

Nice, help me out here I don't know all the tech talk just yet. 3400 swap? I'll look up Hocasons sometime.

3400 swap is the 3400 v6 engine out of a grand am gt or a venture van .......... sho has one in the 3rd gen cavi (never had a production v6 in it )
the engine puts out close to 200 hp stock and can b built......

welcome im in lima not to far away from ya i go to school at uno for high po w

High po w? So how easy is this 3400 swap? and 3rd gen cavi is to the last year the made it right? Sorry, I know all sorts of stuff for actual work, but the lingo escapes me as does the time line. When it comes to actually doing the work, yeah I'm all up there, but other then that I'm a bit lost.

what ECU upgrade do you have?

Re: New guy from findlay
Wednesday, October 25, 2006 10:00 PM
Its that stupid resistor, I guess i didn't research it as well as I thought I had. I read on here that it is doing nothing but wasting gas. So I plan on taking it off unless I find out that it is actually helping the car with hp. The guy who told me about it said it was like upgrading the ECU but cheaper and less mess.

what up, I hang with the Tiffin Findlay Fostoria guys. Sho's car is teh slo, and Emo is never around LOL

Sho, you know I got love for the 3400, and Tony, keep up the good work at school

I drive a 95 GT with the 2.3L HO swap. We need to meet up so I can try to sell my meet idea to you guys.

Mitchell wants a Dyno day if possible. I'm looking into prices around me, Sho if you could look around your area.

I suggest going to DEA forums so we can get some "local" traffic on there.

High po w = Mitchell goes to school in Lima for High Performance automotive. Not sure what the W stands for.

3400 swap.... it aint that hard. Takes quite a bit of time as far as the wiring. But since you have the ECOTEC, I really wouldnt reccomend it as such a good idea.

I see your profile says that you work at Lowes DC. Strangely enough, I work there too. What shift/department are you in?

weekends/shipping. Anyone who isn't there already should join Findlayit.com (if you are from or reeeeaaal close to findlay or can get there in like 5 minutes) We are sponsoring a dyno day soon, the more people the better, besides I need more jbody buddies!!! Does anyone know anymore about the resistor that plugs into the IAT sensor? Does it really do nothing but dump gas?
Re: New guy from findlay

That's why I've never seen you then. I'm in Maintenance/Week/Nights. I run sorter. Thank god you're not on our shift. You'd not like the way I run the sorter in comparison to re-circ and cartons going to the MSPD doors. I'm pretty brutal about it. But then again, that's why the sorter runs so much better on our shift and processes more cartons than Day shift does, or weekend shift does in 12 hours.

I'm on FindlayIT. Not really impressed. Doubt I'll put forth effort toward their dyno day. I'd much rather do that with guys from ToledoTuners.

Ok.... now onto the IAT sensor mod. TECHNICALLY the way the system is set up. It shouldnt do anything. Realize that your engine uses a certain ammount of air, and a certain ammount of fuel, and a spark at just the right time to make the whole Otto cycle happen. Your ECM will use the IAT sensor to decide the temp. of the air going in to decide how much fuel it needs. Then it's going to burn it, and it'll check again with teh O2 sensor to see if the A/F mixture was correct. It'll find out, that it is NOT. SO then it'll pull small ammounts of fuel, until it's target of 14.7 has been reached. Thus, no power has been gained and none has been lost. Same with fuel consumption.

NOW.... when you press the throttle open past 80% your car will ignore the O2 sensors. This is called "Power Enrichment mode". It'll probably dump extra fuel since it believes it's colder out. So, you'll probably feel like the car is faster on the high end. News, it's slower on the low end. A good way to find this out is with an oldschool v8. Put way to much carb on it. The excessively rich a/f mixture will kill it on the low end. But once the RPM's are up, it'll pull pretty damn good.

So I sacrifce take off for a slightly better high rpm speed? Well, that sob is coming out as soon as I get back home...
As for lowes, yeah I heard you guys are brutal and your shippers do a nice job on trucks. I hate to admit it but my shift is nothing but louad mouth brats with ricers who just throw stuff everywhere. Thanks for the help with the IAT mod, any suggestions to get my cavi moving with out too much work or strain on the car? This is my dd and will be that for awhile, I just want it to look and run nice. My next car will be my project GO car...no clue as to what it will be yet tho.

Actually... it seems like it's getting to the point where they'll just hire about anyone. As for our shippers doing a nice job? Not by my opinion. Back in the day, way back when when I was there.. things were a LOT better. We did not mess around. Then mgmt started getting all weird and trying to change all kinda crap around.

As far as FindlayIT. I know I posted how much the .org sucks. But that place. I did some reading around and yeah.. There's a reason there isnt much in the way of fast cars in Findlay. Dont let that 1BadRex guy get to you. He DID own a shop for a while. A friend of mine worked for him and quit when the dude was intentionally messing up cars and screwing customers. I've seen where Josh did body kit installs with caulk and drywall screws (not smart). As much as he parades around on there about what is and isnt a tuner car, and acts like he knows what he's talking about..... myself and many others think otherwise. Else, he'd still own a business.

My suggestion is to make out a plan of what you want the car to be. So you dont throw mods on now that you have to take off later for a different mod. Like throwing on a UDP now and doing a S/C later, or a header now and a turbo later. Once you get an idea of what you want the car to do, go from there.

I don't feel like reposting it, I made a post in the newbs section about what I plan on doing to the car. If you could make any suggestions from that that would be awesome.

Yeah, every time I need to use the toilet at work all I ever see is "Weekend SUCKS" all over the walls...I can't help but feel my fellow co workers aren't working as hard as they say they are.

I dont really like to make a suggestion on what other people should do to their car. It's up to you man.

Awesome, I like people who know how to build a car and can offer help without pushing their opinions on people. Thanks for the help with the IAT sensor.

Now i'm LOLing at the idea on FindlayIT.com that import cars dont get much power from bolt-on's because they are so well engineered. LOL

And I was argued with that the reason they dont is because of the small displacement of the engines. Maybe i'm wrong on that, I dunno. But a BPU Supra gains a lot of power because of the airflow. Sure the engine is relatively small, but it's boosted... so CFM is up there higher than a n/a 3.0L would be.

Yeah, I sometimes wonder why I even bother arguing something on there, seriously. I don't know a whole lot, but still what I know I know because of experience or EMENCE research...Speaking of FIT.com do you know Brad? Little guy in the SI with the exhaust on the wrong end?

BTW, I'm pretty much done on FIT 50% of them are jack asses, half of the other 50% actually know somehting that may be useful but are still asses, half of the last 25% know nothing and are more then willing to let everyone know that, and the final % actually know something and are willing to help but are too afraid to post because of the majority...

Damn I finally read through all those posts between you Jacob chad and that svt dude...All I got to say is what a bunch of morons...Have fun working bro, Get back to me when you can. BTW I hear the numbers that chad and jacob are spewing are IMPOSSIBLE with what they are currently running, and that comes from TRUE race mechanics...Peace.

Yeah, I know Brad. Grew up with him, in McComb. He lives right across the same apt. complex as me now too. Sometimes I pass him on the way home from work Fri. mornings cuz I stay over.

The guys on FIT.... while it's entertaining to see their ignorance. Notice they attempt to change the subject when they're wrong. Like when they say imports with bolt on's don't get much power cuz they're so well designed. So I asked if that meant the 2JZ was a poor design because with bolt-ons they gain upwards of 180hp. LOL. It's funny to see their ignorance, and lack of knowledge but I think i'd rather watch figure skating.

As far as Chad and Jacob.... heh. You know that they're idiots. They act like total ricers for having real mods to a car. Cuz as soon as you prove them wrong, they challenged me to a race? WTF? Even if they win the race (being boosted they probably will too) that doesnt change the fact that they're uhm..... WRONG. But, that's how Findlay goes. I'd imagine if I keep going, they'll want to challenge me to an actual fight. One on one. The kind of people that wouldnt in person cuz i'm probably at least twice their size. I'm not out to do that... but it's funny to think of.

That's ok though. My cav is currently at an 'undisclosed location' outside of Findlay. It's getting surgery along with an MR2 that I watched lay the smack down on a pretty quick SRT-4. Even though as we discovered at the time... the MR2 had a dead oil pump. So there had to be a bit of extra friction holding that beast back. The damage to the cylinder walls and crank was bad but not horrible. It's just shy of 2.2L now

But yeah... their origional beef is that I dont believe like they do. They claim import engines dont gain much power from bolt-ons because they're so well designed. Rather than like I say... it's simply because the engine is small. Yet they'll tell you that a domestic has a bad design and that's why a similar displacement engine from a domestic company will give you poor gains. Not that they were telling that to a girl that has a non-turbo 2nd gen eclipse. Which I will also note uses a messed up version of the 420A engine that's in the Neon (Domestic).

Yeah, I'm gonna have fun for 4 days sitting up on the sorter, pretending that i'm working.
