yeah so ive been busting my nuts forever to get my car done, right? saved up about a grand for paint, got a full new kit, and a ton of other custom stuff (secret until pics are posted) and all of this to be ready for the bash. and as we know the bash is only two weeks away.
well the guy who was going to paint my car came out to my house saturday to check out the car (not legal to drive and tails arent hooked up). said "yeah we can paint it and finish up the custom work you need done (i dont have a welder). im like "great". hes like "ill call you tonight with a total quote. hes the husband of my moms friend and he had originally quoted $500 for a full paint job, paint included, if i helped him block it, etc (and ive seen cars hes painted...hes good). so im like, great, with the small bit of welding and work left, this is gonna be less than $800 out the door. im pumped.
saturday, no call. sunday no call, so i call him. no answer. monday same thing. tuesday i call him at work and hes like "call me at home after 330" so i called around 430, his wife answers and says hes not home. she says she'll have him call me. well its almost 930 and still no call. i do believe he has flaked out on me. and thats soooo not cool.
i had originally talked to him about two months ago about all of this....so ive been planning on this dude and the price and worked my whole time and budget around him. and now....nothing. so im left with just over two weeks to find a new painter, get it in, get the custom work done, and get it painted before the bash. guess what....its not going to happen.
im going to cry.

Paint/body guys seem to be more unreliable than reliable in my experience.
Cmon, I got mine painted in 5 days for the Bash.......3 years ago now. Get on it!

Every Year I've gone to the bash I've had to get up extra early the days I was scheduled to leave just so I could finish installing parts from the painters trust me you have plenty of time.
Especially since my entire car needs repainted and my Dad's body shop is going to do it but them slammed this week so he said next week it will be done. but I've heard this for the past month or so lol.
i know how you feel. took me about a month to find a painter, just found it odd i had my pockets full of cash but couldn't find anyone to do it. first guy wanted to charge me 3200 just to do the kit and fenders, and i allready had 90% of the body work done. second guy was suggested by a friend, after finally getting ahold of him and meeting him he said he'd call me the next day with a price, and a week went by and nothing, so i started calling him every other day and leaving meassages and he never called me back. so gave up on him. then luckily i was dealing with a guy on some mods im no saying lol(i can be secretive to lol) and he pointed me out to a painter who is basically just getting goin in the busniess so i bit the bullet and gave him a go. turned out pretty good. but i didnt realise it take me basically 2 months from when i first start looking for a painter until i got it done.

sndsgood: yeah tell me about it. ive got the cash...just cant find anyone to do it in time now. and 3200 for kit/fenders??? tell me thats not what paint prices go for around there??? around here a full paint job from a real body shop starts about $900. paint prices around here are really good compared with...well...everywhere else lol
cheeter: well if my dad or any relative owned a body shop, or could even paint, then this wouldnt be a problem at all. but ive scheduled everything around this dude and he totally flaked.
so i may just try and get it in primer for the bash.....this is so depressing

I deffinately feel you Ben. I don't think I am going to go to the bash. I busted my balls so badly and didn't sleep for four days leading up to the OC car show. I'm not going to do that again. I don't think I am going to go to the bash. I really hate to say that, but I am killing myself working two jobs and side jobs just to pay for my car and spending all the remaing time actually working on it. I sleep maybe 4-6 hours a night. I am going to chill for a while. I have about still $6k to save up still for my 100% wholesale order from audiobahn (14 subs, 7 amps, 12 speaker sets, ect...), I have my air ride to do, I sitll have my widedbody to finish, roof chop, suicide doors, celica headlights..... there is just so much stuff left. I am going to get another car and just work on mine until it is done, then show it.....

yeah man i know how you feel. ive been busting my nuts since LAST bash! up until a few months ago i had to use my cav as a daily driver, and its impossible to do custom work to a DD. at least youre doing a great job. and if you chop your roof i will be sooo envious...for real. but good luck with your stuff man
as for my car...i think im gonna just try for some primer
. but at least that means ill be able to finish my car like i wanted to. the deadline for the bash didnt allow a few things, like new door handles, etc. so maybe ill spend some of the $ i was going to use for paint and buy a welder...

Tabasco seriously man I feel for ya. I'm just thankful that my painter is not only a good friend but a damn reliable business person whose paintjobs are immaculate.
Just don't rush things. Some may not agree but don't rush it just for the bash. If you do in the end you go home with a car after the bash that is still not 100% how you want it and you will end up spending money to change those things. Best of luck though.

yeah i know....but you dont understand how badly i wanted my car to be done this year....the bash is the only show i care to go to. and i dont even care to show or win anything there. the bash is a show by my peers and with my peers. its the only time i care to try and impress anybody.
but ive almost resigned myself to being in primer. and since thats the case....i may try my hand at finishing some of those body mods before the bash. i may use the extra paint money and buy a welder and air compressor. those will always come in handy....

i soo love my air compressor, get a good one they are well worth it. welding is something else i want to learn to do. don't worry about paint. get the mods you want to get done then paint it. there will be another bash. most of the fun is just seeing everyone else anyway.
even though i can't take my own advice, i hit up the junkyard for a bunch of stock enterior pieces to make it look good for the bash lol.
