Hey guys. I'm kind of a prodigal stranger on here. I've been off and on here for years as a lurker but always return everytime I buy another J car. This is a great site and I've used it a ton, so thanks to whoever makes it happen.
My latest J purchase is a rust free 92 wagon from Florida, and I just rolled 80k miles on it. It's like a 20 year old brand new car, and since I'm also a fairly dedicated wagon kook - I'm seriously diggin it.
I have some grandios ideas of what I want to do to the car and those ideas require some donor parts from a 2nd gen z24. Overall, I'm doing this because I'm finally going to get serious about customizing and want to use this little thing as my practice car. I'm fat, 35, married, and have 4 kids - so I'm by no means in the fast and furious mindset - but I think this car is the perfect blank (and cheap) canvas for me to start flexing my modification muscles on. I don't really have a problem with the F&F crowd - but I think there's a difference between someone who wants shaved door handles because their mom will pay for it and someone who wants shaved handles, knowing they're a PITA, because they want to gain the experience of doing that job. I'm the latter.
It's bone stock, so the old saying "all that's left is everything" applies here - and for me "everything" includes quite a bit. For the most part, I'm cool with it being a rattly old 2.2L and 3 speed auto - so all of my parts that I need will be z24 body parts. I can get a package deal on a z24 "everything needed to clone" from a local yard, but it's still a little much for me to pay right now.
So that said, it's good to be back, I still appreciate the site, and if you have any z24 body parts for a 2nd gen car, please let me know here or via PM what you have and what you'd like for them. Hopefully someone on here can end up with a little beer money and I'll get a deal on some parts that I need for my project.
For the curious, the cliff notes of the build are as follows:
* Shaved handles (yes I know they're a pain)
* Z24 body parts (yes I know side pieces will have to be modified for the wagon)
* Full monochromatic metallic grey repaint
* Full but subtle metallic silver flame job on entire car, including the roof
* Maybe a matching surfboard
* Some sort of upgraded wheels
* SS badging.
Also - I'm sure you all probably already have a guy, but I also do custom vinyl stickers for a couple other websites, custom etched glasses & mugs, Custom etchings on mirrors, and I have a Tshirt press on the way to me as we speak. I get that I'm a stranger to you guys, so I'm not here to push my goods. I'm only mentioning it to present myself as an option should you be at a loss for who to use for any of those things. Gotta be in it to win it, right?!
Peace,
John in Flint
So apparently the only response I've gotten so far is a scolding from an all-seeing, warning-giving, busy body for having my profile info state that I was born in 1941, yet I just said that I'm 35.
Who cares wtf my profile says my birthdate is and why? It isn't like you're going to send me a card and it sure as hell isn't relevant to J-body enthusiasm. It also says that I just gained 10 pounds, and I didn't. You may or may not have also noticed, but I've also spelled FLINT incorrectly too.
I've also went back to where it says to edit my profile within my control panel, and editing my all important date of birth to be a different lie isn't an easily found option.
Thanks for the warm welcome, lame ass.
Dude you're like 70!
just kidding.
Anyhow, welcome. I don't know if you favor the 91-94 Z fascia, but the 88-90 Z fascia will be easier to modify the sides to fit. they don't go up the side of the body like the 2nd gens do. Plus its already in the scheme of monochrome you are going with.
Hey Welcome, I'm from Flint too. Hope to see you at back to the bricks! I have a 3rd gen, but I used to have an 89 convertible. I have a convertible strut brace off a 94, didn't fit my 89, doesn't fit my 02 so if you might be interested send me a pm.
Thanks guys,
Thanks for the heads up on the molding differences too, and you're right - I really don't want the ones that go way up the body. I just know that I need the big ole black plastic bumpers gone.
And brother, you KNOW I'll be on the bricks! I'll be with about a dozen other wagons I've rounded up from the US and Canada, from as far away as NY and NH. Most of them will be B-bodies (caprices and roadys) and I'll probably be in my 65 biscayne wagon - with 4 on the floor and 4 wheel disc brakes.
Thanks for the mention of your part too - but what really would be the benefit of a strut brace on a 4 banger wagon owned by a guy who drives like he was born in 1941?
Peace,
John
The only time you should lie about your age is to pick up underage.......Erm. Anyways, nice wagon.
Thanks, and at this point, I'd probably lie the other way and shoot for a sugar momma.

Well the main benefit is that it gets it out of my garage lol I'll keep an eye out for your wagon, I have a gold 80 sunbird notchback (h-body) that I usually take though I might take my Cavalier. Another option if you want the shaved door handle look but want something easier to live with you could graft flush door handles off something else, like a later model grand prix, just a suggestion.
Yea, I really like the idea of flush mounted handles better than shaving them, and it still satisfies my objective of completing a mod like that. Like everything else though, time and money.
