Alright guys i ran into a little trouble with my car today. First off i went to start it this morning, when i tried to start it nothing happened. It was silent and didnt even crank over, I thought it was the battery but when i swapped batteries it did the same thing without no sound at all. Then when my dad came home he looked at it and put some ether in the TB and it actually decided to try and start, so i continued to try and start it and dad put some more ether in it and it finally started up. So i let the car sit and idle for 5 mins, then i got in it and drove it for another 5 mins and went WOT to try and clean it out some. While driving it the car ran perfect with no issues at all, except for i noticed my gauge cluster had most of the lights on and the gauges didnt show which gear i was in even though i knew i was in "drive".
Does anyone know what could be wrong? I need help on figuring this out as this is my only vehicle.

Same thing happens to my 01 some days it does it and after trying a few times it cranks over and it all is fine. Hopefully someone knows what is going on with it. So we both can fix our problems
Well i went out and tried to start it, and all its doing is cranking over and going Err, Err, Err. I think it may be a fuel issue, but im not 100%. I also tried cycling the fuel by turning it to the on position and turning it off like 6 times and then tried to start it, but it does the same thing. I also put my battery on the charger just in case i didnt have enough juice in it. Once the battery is off the charger ill try it again and see what happens.
BTW Jon is your car cayenne red? cuz in your sig your dash bezel looks exactly like mine since i painted my dash bezel cayenne red just like the outside of my car.

Do you have FP at the fuel rail? There should be a Schrader valve you can un cap and poke. If it squirts you have fuel.

You know i havent tried that, i should go try that and see if that may help.

Yes the one I have was red now it's is about five different colors as I am totally redoing the exterior. The one that I have the problem with is a 01 silver z24
Ok i got my battery charged up and my alternator swapped out today and i started it up and i let it idle for 5 mins without no issues, so then i took it around the block to see if i have any issues while driving. When i go to slow down to a stop sign the car dies out, so i put it in neutral while im at the stop sign and i start it right back up with no issues, then i continued to drive and it did the same thing again.
It seems i am getting more troubles as i go along, i dont know what the deal is now.

ok after letting the car sit for an hour with out being started, i went to go out and start it up again and now it does the same thing as when i first started this thread. It just sits there silently while i try to start it. i dont even hear the fuel pump kick on at all, i just hear my gauge cluster go Eeeeeeee before i put the key in the on position. I dont know what could be wrong now.

The fuel pump should prime when you turn the key on, you should here it buzz. It will go on for a couple seconds and then stop. It will only start running again when the car starts up. You can try and turn the key on and off and it should re prime itself. Im not sure why your cluster is going all wacky but that may have something to do with it. When the car doesnt start you need to determine if your getting fuel, and if your getting spark.

fuel pump? whens the last time the fuel filter was done

When i first started having the problems i heard the fuel pump kick on, but now the fuel pump isnt kicking on and i was getting fuel and spark before, but i havent checked on the current status if i am getting spark or fuel. As for the fuel filter i havent changed that out yet, i do have a new one for it but never put it on. ill swap out the filters and see what i come up with after that.

If the fuel pump isnt coming on thats your problem. Do change the fuel filter though, I forgot about that. Check fuel pump relay and fuse, if those are both ok you may have a short in one of the lines or the pump is done. Good luck.

ok i just went out there and i decided to play with the ignition and let it cycle through the phases of the off to on position and i did that a few times then i try to start it and it finally cranked over and now its running and its idling right now. idk if the ignition switch could be going bad or what but thats what im thinking is my issue now.

If it doesnt start smack the tank with a hammer and see if the pump kicks on.
The fuel pump is not to blame. He is having a "signal" issue from the ignition. Notice he says it wont crank sometimes, the pump kicking on isnt going to change that. Probably have a bad ignition switch, park/neutral switch, or wiring issue.
Sounds like a ignition switch problem, if it was a theft lock issues they normally still crank over.
