Hey guys I found two Cavalier four doors with the same mileage on them but one has a 2.4 L and the other has a 2.2 L motor. Do you guys think the 2.4 L engine is worth $1000 more? I mean I'm going to use the car as a cruiser not really for performance so I don't know if it really matters.
If they're pretty much the same car...why not go with the 1 with more motor...the 2.2 is very reliable but if your kinda limited on power if you ever wanted to add on...where as the 2.4 at least you have more options...i seen you did say you were going to just use it as a cruiser but u may change ur mind eventually.
The 2.2 is going to be a lot cheaper to maintain. It's getting a lot harder to find 2.4s and 2.2s seems to be getting cheaper lol
You can always swap later on too...
No its not worth it..get the 2.2
I'm with Philly on this one. You could swap in a 2.4 later for less than $1,000 if you really want to.

First more info as stated. We talking a 00+ 4 door 2.4? $1000? If so and it is not rusted out or dented to hell grab it.
Secondly in Fl to get a good 2.4 it will cost you around 800-1000 for just the motor.
2.2 is a good daily driver motor, but the LD9 in a 4 door is less popular so if they are in the same shape it would be the 2.4.

They are both silver 2002 cavalier sedans with 84k miles on them and both are autos unfortunately. The 2.2 is $3000 and the 2.4 is $4,000.

I see.
Kelly Blue Book for my zip says a 2002 Z24 4 door (I'm pretty sure the only way a 2.4 came in a 2002 4 door was in a Z24 option), with auto and 84k in fair conidtion is 4426, good 5101, very good 5226, and excellent 5526.
Basing it off that I would say get it. If you later wanted to upgrade from a 2.2 to a 2.4 if will cost you every bit of that $1000, if not more.
I wish I could grab this car myself. Would be a better DD than my 97 Sunfire.

Just curious but it is the 2.2 Ohv and not 2.2 eco right?
02 Should be OHV. Ecos were on the 03-05 for sure
Rich Grayo Jr. wrote:actually the eco came halfway through 2002.
Thats what I was thinking but I wasn't 100% sure
If it's just a daily, I'd get the 2.2; easier to work on, cheaper to maintain, better on gas, cheaper to insure... the list goes on. But as stated, if it's a legit 02 Z24 sedan, I'd grab it based on rarity. I found one a few months ago in Jax, but it was beat to hell

If Evan doesn't get it I will. It has a lot more miles than two I was originally talking about but I bet it's a 5-speed.
I was told about a 4 door silver Z24 5 down between Ocala and Orlando, not sure on the proce, but it is at a dealer of some type.

in any event: shop around. both those cars in my area would go for about $1500 private sale because it doesn't have a honda or a dodge badge. see what other j cars are going for in the area and go from there.

I might have to look into that. Thanks
Well the one in bushnell ended up being an auto with too many miles and too much. Anyone know of any others?
