Ok I found a cheap little 2000 Cavalier this guy bought for parts.
it has no title, and no way of knowing who owned it before.

Is there anyway I can somehow get a title for the car, or will it never be legal again?

I would contact your state DMV and ask what the procedure is to do this. Most states can track the VIN to the last titled owner to verify the sale is legit. But no way would I assume you can just apply for a title. In some states you can also apply for an abandoned vehicle title and if the last titled owner can't be contacted by the DMV they will issue a new title.

I have been in this situation myself with a car here in nc.I had to go to dmv and have them trace the cars vin to the original title holder.Which in my case was a used car dlr who then had a lein against it.I just payed him 200 bux to clear the title and sign it over to me.Now with your car I would guess as long as the original titled owner signs some paper work saying it's free and clear and you or they submit this to nc dmv they should send you a new title of ownership.I want swear to this but, the nc dmv can tell you how to handle this with a phone call and or a visit to them in your area.My cost on my situation was just really padding the dlrs pockets bc the car was wrecked and he had no reason to want it back being it was totalled due to age at the time.That is the best suggestion for you.
