WTB: 03+ Sunfire / Cavalier

Guys - I'm in the market to buy a 2003+ Cavalier or Sunfire in good working order and all parts with a 5 speed. I would like a LS Sport (but can live with a std coupe) and I have been scouring Auto Trader and Craigslist.

Thought I would try this. Anybody?

If you would actually work on it it would be a good car.

Well, I've been looking at autotrader.com, I'm pretty sure that is what you are referring to. I never claimed to have a problem FINDING one, I was simply asking on the particular website that has a good population of J owners to discover if somebody wants to get rid of one. =P

I've been pondering this a long while. Should I work on this car or scrap it?

- 185,000 miles on the car (20-25k on the motor, tranny, suspension, etc from motor swap)
- The front brakes/rotors and rear brakes / drums need to be replaced. One of the rear wheels is locking up as well
- Auxiliary fuel pump is shot
- I have a fuel leak within the engine bay.
- Would like the A / C working on the car with a defroster (if it rains or the window fogs up, I'm screwed)
- Windshield wiper motor is rusted and shot (if it rains, I'm screwed)
- Under carriage is rusted
- Want to put a interior back in the car
- Couple other smaller issues

In the end, it was a lack of maintenance that has caused most of the problems. I lost interest in the car when I moved down here and discovered that the car scene simply suck. After turboing the car it was kinda like "what now" and she sat. Then I bought the Benz and frankly the Cavalier cannot touch the car on performance nor creature comforts (which is to be expected).

I'd rather spend $4-5,000 and place the turbo on that Ecotec motor. I'll gut the LYC and keep the motor / tranny as a spare and find a new home for the shell. The time, effort, and money I'd put into the LYC would end up being upwards of $3,000 anyway to put it back the way I want it.

The brakes are easy fixes. Your locking brake is probably a leaky wheel cylinder. You can replace all the brakes (rotors, drums, pads, SS lines, wheels clyinder) for no more than $300, probably less. Interior is easy, and cheap. Your defroster should work (does not need AC to work). Geting AC should not be to hard. I do not remember what we did with that when we did your swap?

As for getting another car I see Ecotec J's for 2k in jax all the time and some for 3k.

Josh this is the problem...

You said

(((I lost interest in the car when I moved down here and discovered that the car scene simply suck.)))

Then you said

Then I bought the Benz and frankly the Cavalier cannot touch the car on performance nor creature comforts (which is to be expected).

SO with that being said ..WHY look for a POS J-body to replace POS J -body ???? (Face it you will just let it sit around till it rust out also)

Why not just part out the J-body you have ??? At least you can still get some money for the parts .. then you can take that money and put it in your Benz or the bank .

I have an 03 for sale. About 63k miles, I would have to double check. It's an LS with the full LS Sport Bodykit and wheels. Still has a great 2.5" mandrel bent exhaust on it for turbo. Can make you a combo deal if you want the HAHN Stage 5 turbo kit, not installed. Has a brand new GM clutch, FW, master and slave cylinder. 02 trunk and LS Sport spoiler. I'm asking $4700 for the car.

@ FstCavz24: What all has been installed in the past... I'd prefer a cavy that was prior N/A to put the kit on. No offense, but I'm not sure how beat the car got

@ Robert: You are 100% correct. However, if the Cavy had what I mentioned is missing, it would be my daily driver. that is why I am looking for another one. I plan to pull everything out of the existing car and transfer it to the new car and keep the motor as a spare to build. Once I do this, if you and John want the LYC shell you guys can have it.

The cars been boosted since day one. Had a HAHN stage 2 kit, then GM SC with stock pulley, then the HAHN stage 5 kit. Drove the car across country from CA to TN with no fears. If I had any doubts about the car I wouldn't try to sell it on JBO.

I do understand your concerns but the car has been well maintained. Keep it in mind, great car and good price.

I'll keep you in mind.

Talking about AutoTrader - The first car near me is 54 miles away followed up by a Sunfire that is over 700 miles away. Heh.
