Official Tuner Bash Caravan Thread (SE)

Alright, folks, the GM Tuner Bash is NEXT MONTH and it's time to start thinking about a caravan to West Salem, Ohio. Paul has asked me to coordinate the event so he can prepare for our arrival.

I would like to be able to pick up attendees along the route. We will have 2 major stops in Atlanta and Knoxville. I realize this route completely misses the Carolinas, Mississippi, and Alabama, but it also bisects the South East region almost perfectly.

Here are maps of the stops:

STOP ONE

STOP TWO

STOP THREE

Because the show starts at 3 pm on Friday and the route (without stops) calls for 16 hours and 52 minutes of driving, AND that I have a hotel room booked for Thursday night, the caravan will leave Thursday morning (for Florida people). By Thursday morning, I mean before the mutha effin sun rises. The first big pick up stop will be in ATLANTA. That's approximately 7 hours from Tampa. Next will be KNOXVILLE. Thats 3 hours from Atlanta. From there we will have no more pick ups, as it's 7 hours to Ashland where the hotels are (a lot of rooms have been reserved already). Here’s a link to the hotels available. Paul (DTP) would like to have everyone at the same two. http://hotel-guides.us/ohio/ashland-oh-hotels.html I’ll be at the Holiday Inn and the other bash hotel is the Super 8. The hotels are about 15 minutes from the track.

Of course we'll have minor stops along the way for breakfast, lunch, peeing, etc. I would appreciate it if everyone filled up at each stop because since we all have the same cars and will be going the same speed, we can coordinate fill ups. I have calculated gas to be $360 round trip from Tampa. Everyone else should be a bit less.

I'm going to give the trip a total of 20 hours after factoring stops. I will be leaving Tampa at 3 am. Yes, 3 in the morning, a time I normally go to sleep. This means I will be going to be at 8 pm and waking at 2, getting my ish together, and hopefully rendezvousing with Orlando. Please let me know if you're in Florida and plan on going to the bash so I can set up a Florida stop for ya'll. Everyone else will be at the mercy of the designated stops. There should be mini caravans to the stops to make sure everyone gets there at the same time and no one gets left behind.

I also realize that a few of you may be thinking, Why take the longer route when there's a shorter one available?? For example, the Carolinas could take 77 to 64 (or whatever those are over there) and make the trip in a shorter time. Well, consider this. The purpose of the bash is to bring together .org members whom have never gotten the chance to meet one another. A big part of the bash is not actually at the bash but before and after when the regions get together and storm the grounds. It's an experience that I know I would be upset to miss.

When we get closer to the date, I'll give out my cell phone number. I would appreciate it if I was called first whenever a stop is needed so we can all go together. My average speed on the interstate is 80. I do NOT have cruise control, so I'll be driving 20 hours in pain. Do me a favour and don't dick around on the interstate. No racing, no weaving, no acting like morons.

I'm willing to have people ride along in my car with me if you want to save on gas. All I ask is a couple bucks each fill up. I could use the company anyhow.

Here's a rough time schedule:

  • I leave Tampa at 3 am
  • I arrive in Ashland at 11 pm

On the real, I'll look into a better time schedule in the next day. Give me a little time to do my calculations.

And here is the bash itinerary:
The itinerary for the bash is as follows:

well, at least it's stickied so you know where not to look so you can avoid this thread.

after the bash it'll be gone, and you can find something just as meaningless to gripe about.

LMAO....that is so right on!!! Well count me in on the voyage to the great wonderful state of OHIO......

Well a few warnings about driving I75 through GA and KY......DONT EFFING SPEED!!!! and wear your seat belts especially in GA, Also watch for speed traps i know personally after seeing about 6 of them in GA alone that they are good at them, they like to put about 2-5 cruisers on a over road(road that crosses the interstate but isnt an entrance) and the have them target both directions with speed guns....then they radio your cars description in to about 7-10 cruisers that are about a mile up the road, BUSTED!!

KY is not as bad but they are known for it, and Ohio especially by the borders!

Alexis do you have a list so far of the people going to the Bash!

Yeah, 16+ hours without cruise is going to be hell. I'll have a bottle of tylenol with me, lol.

Alright, let's start a list of who will be going.

1. Alexis

BTW, if no other state decides to tag along, I'll revise the route to get us there faster.

I have found I-75 not to be bad at all for the cops. Yes they do sit out but 80 is no problem. I have traveled it many times for work (at least up FL to Atlanta).

ive traveled 75 about 11 times from IN(Anderson) to FL(Miami/FTL)so far in my short life,(me driving), and almost every time GA is the state that gets you, I know around Macon is bad and Valdosta isnt to fun, but i cant remember where ive seen all the Stateys before, its usually in the same spot every time!

i might be along for the ride, although i'll have just made this almost exact trip a month before
so, if i do attend, and drive, i can take over the lead closer to ashland - i kinda live there, know the area fairly well....20+ years residency and used to deliver pizza....just dont count me in as 100% because i'll probly just be starting a job and don't know if they would allow me to be off that soon...and alot of it depends on cash flow by then too

so, put me in the maybe column
