Hey guys, I still need that ECOtec manual PCM. I was gonna have Palm Chevrolet reflash mine, but a I heard from a GM tech that you gotta bring them a list of the codes you want cleared, or else they'll end up just rippin you off. I dont want that
Does anyone know if the fuel and ignition maps are the same or different between the auto or manual PCMs?

Dude sorry to say but you no nothing about your car. The dealers do not do custom work, but they can reflash your eCU to a manual one. When I say this I mean so it is like a factory ECU, not a custom some codes here and others gone. Just go on Car-parts.com and buy a ECU and be done with it.

Wait, wait, wait! The dealer can reflash an auto Eco ECU into a manual program? Is this true at all?

Yes. Of course it cost and of course some dealers might not do it, but they can do it.

Don't you need a VIN from a car that came with a manual transmission?
I already asked, and they'll do it for $101. Donald talked to a guy who said he worked for GM for 25 yrs, and he told Donald that when I go in, to hand them a list of the codes to clear out, or else they'll just end up blaming the CEL on something else. I wasnt askin for a custom ECU reflash, altho, now that I look at it, it kinda came out that way. I'm just wondering how I'll know if they actually do it, or just take my money and say they did, aside from the fact that the PCM will still be throwing tranny codes. And John, you're half right. I know my car, I just dont fully understand what all the PCMs are programmed to. I've heard the PCMs are exactly the same (this mainly comin from dealers I've talked to from car-parts.com). Thats why I was asking about if the fuel and ignition settings were different from manual to auto. BTW, I've already looked on Car-Parts.com, the majority of the people I talked to tried telling me that the PCMs were the same, and some of them seemed like they had no idea what I was talking about. I dont wanna send out money for a PCM thats 1200 miles away, that might be the same as the one I already have, I figured the reflash would gimme peace of mind, for only a few dollars more. I just gotta worry about the GM techs rippin me off.

Ok here is the deal when you get the ECU reflashed and the car is started the first time there will be no codes. It is a new ECU to your car. SO if you get codes for the tranny then they did not do the job right. If the light comes on a day or 2 later for something different like the P0440 you got they did there job. Also I do believe you need a 5 speed VIN to give them as well. That part is no big deal. As for the fuel and ign maps being different there is sooo many different maps for J's. I have looked at many J's ECU's and they were all different, but not by a whole lot.
