Warning ticket

mkay...well i was one the way home from town with my girlfriend and i see a state trooper way ahead of me coming toward me.

I saw him pull off the side of the road and wait for me to pass by and he pulls me over, my girlfriend having a heart attack(never been pulled before). Well I was in an accident and i havent repositioned the muffler so that it fits in the muffler port because i just got a new replacement bumper. The car is still In Primer.

Well the bastard comes up to my window and asks me if i knew that my muffler was illegal...of course i said no and asked him why. He told me that it was too loud. I've had the same exhaust(stock with resonater and stock muffler cut off and some cheap raspy "fartcan" welded to the end) for over a year and no problems. On top of that how could he have heard my muffler from way down the road.

He ended up giving me a warning ticket and 7 days to fix it. I'm curious as to what the laws are here in Duplin County NC and what i need to do to fix this problem if i need to.

Thank you for any advice and information.

Actually in Florida aftermarket exhaust are illegal. I have gotten 2 tickets (1 on each of my J's) for exhaust. I have read the laws and any exhaust other than factory is ilegal (except on Harley's)

^^^^ Well that depends what part of Florida ...down here in south Florida you can go Miami a there would not be no more than 10 min driving without hearing a fart can, loud muffler, loud @ss chopper running down the road.....and cops are used to it......

A good read for those in Florida, Florida Statutes state:
Quote:

F.S. 316.293 Motor vehicle noise,

(5) NOISE ABATEMENT EQUIPMENT MODIFICATIONS (a) No person shall modify the exhaust system of a motor vehicle or any other noise-abatement device of a motor vehicle operated or to be operated upon the highways of this state in such a manner that the noise emitted by the motor vehicle is above that emitted by the vehicle as originally manufactured.

(b) No person shall operate a motor vehicle upon the highways of the state with an exhaust system or noise-abatement device so modified.

Guilty!!!

The cops down there might not say anything, but that does not make it untrue. Up here the cops usually only say anything if they already have you pulled over, or they just want to be a dick.
nice find Madjack, I think there is another part that speaks about Bikes, and basicly lets them off the hook.

I think its bs. Especially since bikes get off the hook for everything even tho they make twice as much noise as a car with modified exhaust.

well i took the car to the shop yesterday and i had a glasspack put in right after the cat....made the cab way less noisey but i cant really tell a diffrence other than its not raspy anymore.... think i should worry about it much more? and will his ticket hold up in court if i just decide not to do anything else?

Judging from that law that got posted up, hell yes thats going to hold up. Your breaking the law, plain and simple, its a retard BS law, but your still guilty of breaking it. It will hold up
