I take it that other person who was interested lost interest? That sucks man.

I should be up in Jax near the end of March, beginning of April. So, if we haven't met up by then, I'll bring the seats with me.

Honestly there is no market for modded J's. For someone who wants a J they are better off buying a stock one cheap and them modding it themselves. I think you would be better of taking some things off and selling the car in a more stock form.

book value means almost nothing to a custom car. Sure you can start out there as a base price, but to someone who cant do this kind of work themselves and wants a show quality car its a steal. I understand that most people on this site can do the work themselves but some cant. If you bought this car stock at book price of 6500 and spent the money on the parts I have as well as all the labor it takes to make it this way it would put you around 15,000+

Its all about personal preference.

Sorry to say but mds add no value to a car. Unless you find someone looking for exactly what you want. I'm surprised KBB is that high. I was thinking 5k. A lot of this has to do with how GM sold the J's at the end. So cheap. People just are not going to pay 8k for a car that they can still find new ones for that price. I'm not saying the car is not nice (because it is), or was not done right (because it was), just the truth.

You definitely have a nice car Kevin. In fact, I'd say its one of the nicest and cleanest cars that I've seen on this site. But, there are a few issues with selling the car under your terms.

1. Banks are going to be very hesitant to finance 130% of the retail value for a private party sale. They also don't care about mods either. This means the purchaser is going to have to fork over the extra $2-3 grand that the bank will not pay for. Let's face it, the majority of J-body owners don't have an extra 2-3 grand to put up. There is a reason they were looking at $6,000 cars to begin with.
2. Some people are going to shy away from the car simply because the airbags have been removed. This is also going to be a problem when it comes to insuring it (especially if the purchaser is looking to finance the vehicle). Some insurance companies will not insure an economy car with no airbags.
3. I don't know where all you are trying to sell the vehicle, but right now you are speaking out to a bunch of people who, while we may have a certain fondness and respect for the car and work done to it, most of us already have a J or 2. IT doesn't hurt to try to sell it to someone who knows about these cars and can appreciate the work put into it, but don't be discouraged if the sale doesn't go through with a buyer from JBO. If anything, direct them here so we can make sure we keep the new owner in line and they keep the car in a clean state.

I don't think the price you are asking for is unreasonable, but I also know what parts and the quality of work that went into the car. Unfortunately for you, I don't have an extra $8,500 laying around either.

That said, I hope you do get the car sold. If it's becoming a burden though, you will likely have to lower the price to get it out faster. Either that, or take some parts off, sell those, and lower the price.

btw, make sure you let people know there is a back seat, it's just a few miles away.

I agree completely. I think what you mean to say is that you are selling the car toward a person interested in the tuning scene. The car is not intended to be sold for the someone who wants a daily driver grocery getting cavalier. Aftermarket parts may add no value to the blue book price, but the idea is to sell the car to someone who wants a modified/show car and can save a fortune in time, money, and energy buying it with all the work already done. When I was in the market for a car to tune I would have jumped on this, hell if it had boost I would have paid 10k for it easy. I boosted custom J, with full power everything, and a mere 36k on the clock is a steal even if I paid a couple thousand over book value.

You have some good points. I still have to refer back to this: Being it is a J-body and most people who own them are young people with little money (dang wish I was young again), they can get a newer, or even new J for that same price if not lower than his asking price. Of course it would not be modded, but they think they can do it themselves (which they can, but few do). Plus parents are involved alot of times with these younger people. They see a car like this and get scared because of scenes like Fast and The Furious. Also as muffin said unless the person has cash most banks are not going to cover the full cost of the car. When selling a modded J you hope someone see's it that likes it and has money (usually mom and Dad's money). I agree with the price, but I also have seen many J's sell, or try to sell, there is not a market for them.

exactly john, my target for this car is some spoiled kid whose mommy and daddy will buy it for them. I dont think the price is outragous, hell i had people interested when it was well over 8500... there is just no market for modded Js period.

Also for those who rant about KBB... KBB is garbage, its a nice starting point and thats all... espically when it comes to a custom car. I did an identical apprasial on a standard Z24 with factory options and these were the results.

02 Z24 with 100,000 miles - 6,040
02 Z24 with 1 miles - 7,415

now you cant tell me if a dealership still had a 02 Z24 on their lot with 1 mile on it it wouldnt be going for 10K+

suggestion: Park it near a high school in a nicer area of town.

I am saying someone may not buy it. But the problem people think cavalier they may not be inclined to buy one. RSX well that is another story.
Great i like it but, the same way some people on here say and SRT4 is still a neon. It is still a cavalier.

I don't want you to think i don't like you car i would consider buying it if it was a couple years back.

You have one photo of the car, and it's a fairly poor one because you can't even see the two tone. I found your ad on Tampa Racing and you didn't bother to add photos or anything. Are you not in a rush to sell it or something? People need more photos, and a lower price (as stated above, mods do nothing but make people concerned that the car was beaten on).

I'm a bitch. Look out. I'm here to start drama.
Please take everything I say seriously.

His ads in other areas either aren't available anymore, or only have a link to ONE photo.

I love the look of this car. Sad to see it go. Hope the new owner doesn't tear it a new one.

Yeah I could say a dealership wouldn't get 10+ g's for it cause they know first of all they sat on that car too long, and second know one would pay that much for it when they could virtually get a brand new z for almost the same price. Lets put it this way, If I had a lump of POO, and I decorated it and made it the nicest peice of poo it could possibly be. Would you pay extra for it? NO because its still a lump of poo
