GM Oil - What brand?
Saturday, August 02, 2008 9:12 AM
Hi,

I was wondering what brand of oil or who makes it for GM in Canada? This is the oil they use when they do oil changes at a dealership. Last I heard, they were using Petro Canada.

Thanks in advance!

Usually just AC Delco stuff...... To be honest, just go buy some Castrol GTX and call it a day.

My car seems to run extremely well after a oil change at GM that is why I was asking.

Thanks

I used to work at a GM dealer in Ottawa, and they got their bulk oil from Petro Canada. The Chrysler dealer I just got laid off by uses Valvoline for their bulk.

The standard GM weights are 5w30 (for most vehicles nowadays) and 10w30 (some older GMs still take this).
The standard Mopar weights seem to be 5w30 and 5w20.
Anything other than the bulk weights comes in jug form with no supplier listed, just "ACDelco" or "Mopar/DaimlerChrysler."

Part of why your car runs better might be because other oil change locations don't know the precise amount of oil for your vehicle and may overfill it. I'm not saying that always happens, just that it could be a possibility.
