just wondering, are the trunk lids from a 97 model cavalier the same as a 2002? fitment etc?

Yup, all the same. The sunfire coupe is the only 3rd gen to have a different trunk lid.
Ya the only differances from the 2dr cavy, 4dr cavy, and the 4dr sunfire are the holes for the different spoilers and inner tails.
