Yeah, you generally have to go to court in the area you got the ticket. Why should they have to come to you if you were charged in their area?
so there's no other way to despute the ticket from here? that's just stupid... where's the provincial goverment looking

just hire a rent a lawyer like points if you want someone to represent you in another province

Would cost you the same in the end minus the ticket on your record/points if you went the lawyer/points route. Friend of mine was gonna do that until he found out his insurance company would throw out the first offence ticket. So he just paid it.
