I told her what I would charge, and aparantly $150 less than the competition was too much. I guess I should work on cars for free from now on.
I'm doing it for a case of beer...
That's 23 more beers than I did dougalls and pains for lol

When you're dealing with J owners, odds are they spent all their money to buy the parts and have no money left over to pay to put them on...you should know this by now Darren

Ah... the apprentice is becoming the master... Good stuff!
sort of off topic, but I've done about 6 or 7 koni installs on J's in Manitoba.
Just curious what you guys charge?
I'm anywhere from $150 - $250, or pizza (if its my friends)
I said $200 but aparantly thats too much.
Marcor in Hamilton does the Koni install for $125, so $200 is too much...
well, if I have all the right tools, it takes me 4 hours.
$250/4 = $62.50/hr which is less then any shop around here. (who are unexperienced, and would take LONGER then 4)
If you've spent all this money to lower your car the safe way, why would you skimp out on the labour of install? It CAN be screwed up, and could jeopardize the integrity of your suspension.
I know j-body owners don't buy j-body's to spend a LOT of money.

Generally speaking if you can get something done cheaper somewhere else, most people take that route. I'm all for paying for quality however. If I can get it done for less but know if I pay someone else more that I know 100% can do it better I'd take that route. I'm not insulting anyones work etc, just stating a point.
Shoppers in general shop around to find the best deal before they settle down. Most do anyway.
Also forgot to ask, when you get an actual shop to do it, do they include an alignment ??

Depends who does it and if they have an allignment machine. Generally, if they are a shop specializing in suspension, they will recomend one and do it after.
And if Marcor does full Koni installs for $125, they are charging too little. I can understand if its just a regular spring/strut setup, but not a koni sleeve install.
I wonder if Marcor is still keeping them on hand pre-assembled. That would explain the price.
If the guys in the shop aren't busy, they can do the cutting and fitting when they have free time. Then when someone wants the install, they can do it quickly and easily like any other strut install, for minimal cost. Sounds like good business to me!
For people I don't know, I generally charge $100 + a case of beer for a Koni install.
I think the Marcor price may only be valid if you Purchase the struts there. Or maybe the struts and springs, i'm not sure...
Last time I was in there they had a sign advertising their $125 price...
funny thing is, is that dougall offered to do this for laura when she first got them for a case of beer and she turned it down

You know you're cheap when...
well Rich I talked to Andrew he said I should go to someone else cause he has never done a koni install before so listened to him I want someone who knows what they are doing
ive done the install, just not mounting the spring to the strut....... and if it was just a straight swap in with everything assembled i would of charged a case of beer...... if i were to know how to do the koni install, i would charge 100-150... thast alot of work
straight strut/spring install i can have done in like 30 mins if no problems and nothing rusted on

I would've went to u if u knew what to do but u even said i was better off finding someone else.
Sorry Darren, don't take it personal like its a shot on your work cause I know your good. But a case of beer is cheaper then $200. And really if this was engine work you'd be the first one I come too.
And Dougall basically just said it there. He hasn't done it to this extent before, I don't blame him for not wanting to do it. Hell I don't know what I would be doing and thats why I won't be touching it either.
Just seems no matter what she does someone on here is gonna bitch, same crap as always.
