Do they let motorcycles run at Rock Falls?
Friday, May 02, 2008 2:24 PM
Hey guys.... since the likelihood of my car seeing the drag strip again in the new future is slim and I should have my bike all ready to go in a couple of months or less.... I was thinking if I could get the day off.... I would just bring my motorcycle with me instead of my car next time you all go to the track.... that is if they let bikes run.

My bike isn't fast (for a bike).... but it should give some of our J-bodies a run for their money..... and I've always wondered how fast it actually is.

I believe you have to be in full gear and you have to have a snell 98 and up helmet, but don't take my word on the helmet. But yeah there have been a few bikes out there. They even have bike days a couple times a year.

^^^ ha ha..... I don't even need to know what kind of bike you have and I already know you would probably run me into the ground LOL.

I've got a 28 year old 550ci Suzuki cruiser that I'm modifying... it's not fast... but it's still a DOHC 4 cylinder that red lines at 9500rpm so it's still fun to ride.

I have a pic of it next to my car in my profile (look under either my Sunfire or Suzuki) as it sits for the moment.... most the cosmetic mods will be coming shortly.... performance wise... it's stock and will most likely stay that way for a while.... hay its a classic.

I'm sure it will run a low 14 if I had to guess.... maybe a high 13 if I'm really lucky and pull a perfect launch out of my ass LOL... it's kinda hard to guess... especially on a bike.... but if I do get it to the strip this summer.... I'm guessing a 14.XX but you never know....... I do know though that my buddies R6 outruns me so bad that I might as well be driving the opposite direction (kinda like racing a Corvette racing a golf cart).... I still like my bike... and I'm turning it into a sort of jap bike chopper / bobber..... but damn I still want a crotch rocket.

Well, I dunno if you would outrun me or not. I just picked up an '08 Kawasaki Ninja 250R. It's a new designed DOHC engine and redlines at 14K. It's a blast to drive and surprisingly has some balls. Supposedly it runs a 14.4-14.5 in the 1/4 mile. I would like to run it just for fun. Will probably upgrade to a bigger bike next year. Just wanted a nice and light starter bike without huge power. And not to mention good on gas :-)

Looks like a sweet cruiser bike you've got. We'll have to get together for a ride or meet up at the track sometime.

250 or not.... a Ninja should be a bit faster than my bike...... if you can outrun Harley's... you can outrun me

There is still a dent on the headlight shroud from the previous owner since those are hard to come by and someone stole my battery cover.

I'm planning on mounting the solo seat this weekend and cleaning up the rear fender... then I have to order a new set of tires, make up custom covers and find a set of drag bars somewhere (which means the windshield is going bye bye). Then it's just a matter of adjusting the chain, getting it started, and possibly readjusting the clutch (will need a new clutch before too long).

I've had the bike since1997 (my first bike) and have kept it running since.... it only had 8 grand on it when I bought it and now it has 20 something on the odo.... that's less than 1,000 miles per year so hopefully it lasts a while longer. I just never bought another bike.... but I'm still wanting either an old Harley or newer sport bike. (but I'm keeping my current one either way)

I'm going to try to make it to the S&S dealy at the track in LaCrosse WI coming up.... I don't know where in Wisconsin you live.... but if your going to it... I'll be there if I get the day off..... there's going to be motorcycle drag races on the straighaway of the circle track.... but since S&S is a company that makes parts for Harleys.... there will probably be a lot of yuppies on Harleys there and I'm willing to bet they'll get pissy if anyone on a sport bike of any kind lines up next to them since Harleys are so slow (although they won't admit it).
