Car is down for the count

Looking for a new engine now... long story short my lifters came unseeded and started hitting my piston and now I have a serious hardcore knocking sound... instead of taking it apart and spending more money fixing it then it would cost to buy a different engine I decided to just wait and buy a new engine... so until then my cav is out for the count.

Thats why i always change my own oil I have heard of this happening way to many times to feel safe leaving my car there. Around here all the oil change places are just part-time highschool kids, and we all know how serious most high schools kids take a job.

Its "technically" impossible for the lifters to be slapping your pistons. If it was an oil problem, and you have a knocking noise, you've probably toasted a rod bearing. Unless a huge hole has exploded in your head, the lifters can't get into the combustion chamber. The only thing that interfaces with the pistons from the head is the valve faces themselves, the stems go up and push against the lifters.

Either way, it probably is cheaper to get a new engine and put it in there, the hard part is finding an engine, the swap itself can be done in a matter of a couple hours with the right tools.

Sorry about the luck.

It was my rods that went out actually ... I had a new motor installed it has 12,000 miles on it from a 04 cavalier didn't cost too much but it comes with a dealer warranty because they installed it so I have a warranty for 2 years.
