All in the name of making more power I swapped .450/.430 lift cams in my 1992 GTZ, with the idea that I was going to tune it.(with the help of Team Green) it ran, but badly. After 2 weeks I decided to go back to stock, after all, this is my reliable daily driver.
Well, I got a new timing chain, guides and tensioner, drove it home (after installing HO cams back in) and it drove fine. The next day I tried to start it to take it to work and degrease the engine bay, no start..... It sounded like the starter was spinning before it kicked out. So I installed a new 2000 up 2.4 small starter (GREAT MOD, MOTOR SPINS WAY FASTER) same thing. that Monday (yesterday) I installed another 2K starter, but this time I left the intake off, and guess what I didn’t see? Valves moving, they all stayed
OPEN! YA!
So now I get to put a new head on, and rebuild it... my daily driver... my reliable car......
So if I cant trade them, I’m going to sell them on eBay and get me some new W-41 cams to use with the RP ECM.
…so much for rebuilding the LD9 this summer.

he would have probably tightened everything down, set the tensioner correct and set the timing right more then likely.
not sure if you took motors apart or not, that dont matter. you ever do a cam swap on a quad 4/2.4l motor before?
brian has done many cam swaps and i never heard of them going wrong, that is why i said he should have helped you. he did the seceret cams( i sorta helped) on my $hitbox and i havent had a issue now going on 4 years.
at least that was how 'team green' was back in the day. if someone didnt fully understand the modifaction they were doing they called on another member with alot of knowledge namely brian to help out with the project and it always went smoothly.
how was 'team green' going to "tune" it? no one has 0bd1 tuning capabilities.
hope your pistons arent dinged up either and all the vavles are straight.
good luck
WOW how little you know.....

"if,if's and but's, were candy and nuts, we'd all have a merry christmas"
weather he messed somthing up or not, get that beast back up and running, true quad 4's ftw!
Ya, I was mad..... just a little FYI, about human's 1st every one screws up... and get this, if you can stop sucking Brains nuts, he set my timing the first time ( ya, I’ve had the cams out 3 times, and the timing apart for different cam gears 6 times ) when he did it for me he had the intake cam 180 deg. off.. WOW even Brian can mess up.....
Here’s how I know I didn’t mess up, (and you should have been able to deduct it, if you can READ) after I changed the cams back to stock HO's, put a new timing chain it, and new guides and a tensioner, I DROVE IT HOME, THAT OVER 30 MILES! (Neat hey!)
Now riddle me this... or my favorite, REITERATING,
WHAT DID I DO WRONG? With your vast knowledge you of all should be able to tell me.
So pissed.....................

judging by your 13 second 200whp stock pulley'd gm s/c car(which no one has come close, but apparently you). i remember when you installed the s/c and "modified" the stuff "gm" gave you. and your stories about a low 13 second small turbo dsm, and some other racing stories i remember i tend to question your knowledge, abilities and stories. brian probably only hangs out with you as you work for a GM shop and can get good deals on parts as he dont have killerquad jake at wilde pontiac .
how i am hanging from brians nuts? seeing that havent seen or talked to him in about a year or so? .
of course i am out of the 'loop', i live 3 hours from where i used to be. last i read in that purple car post by tom, brian said he didnt have obd1 tuning capabilities thus that is why i asked how you were going to do it. last i remember, brian was always the main guy in team green.
vast knowledge= when did i claim to have that? i dont tinker with j bodies anymore, been there, done that. I am other things to concentrate on in my life, and on the side i work with my brother on his dsm. i just decided to focus on a more capable platform and still keep in touch with my j body roots.
but if i do have vast knowledge, it tells me that you put the stock cams back in and fubar'd something up, thus it sits somewhere needing repair. you should have left it all alone if that was your daily driver.
all i said is you should have had brian lend a hand as he is good with that stuff, not a personal attack. but if you want to continue and get personal that is up to you, i am always up for some excitement.
good luck getting it back on the road.
I'm not getting into it......... but I do make mistakes........ and I was around a for most of the work. W/O pulling the cover off, I'd say the new 1 piece Tensioner failed........ just from the simple fact he drove home from Sean's just fine that night.
...... and ICE does wonders on a S/C car

ya, a little harsh on my part. my main intent of the first post was saying if you werent certain on that stuff, brian is good with that as he has done it more. i didnt know he helped and was there, crap does happen. I just took it the wrong way i guess. sorry
good luck getting back in running condition
i was certain..... it was my 3 time taking the cams out... as stated in post number one. and im not the hammer beating kid any more as i was when i was 19... (but its a funney story to look back on. ) and my HP numbers.... IDN how i pulled it off.. really but for the dyno pull i had dry ice and for the 1\4 MI run i staged it for 1\2 and hour with a bag of ice on it (like you told me) and then ran it.
i dident know what the DSM ran.. all i know is it keep next too, from a role, a newer R6.... all i had was 1MM OS valves, 20 PSI, 1990 ECU, and a walbro Fule pump (with all the free mods) so i would say at least in the 13's.... it was way faster than my Z24 with the 2.5" pulley.
either way, 11:1 pistions, Brian's Dad's 1.10 MM head gaskit, shot pened rods, W-41 cams, +2-2 cam gears, RP ECM, new bearings and oil pump. then ill be on my way, hopefully it will run low 15's...................................................................................
anywho
