Would anyone be interested in doing a state wide poker run through IL sometime in the spring? I've been itching to put one of these on for a while and think it would be a blast. 24 hours to hit 4 spots all over the state and get back to the start point for the final card.
Here's what I had in mind....
Start and Finish: Atomic Fabrication in Joliet, IL
North Stop: Rockford, IL
West Stop: Quad Cities
East Stop: Danville, IL
South Stop: Cairo, IL
Cost $20 for one person, $35 for 2 person team in 1 car
Prize: 50% of the take, in cash
It would take SOME effort to get to each place but I think it could easily be done in 24 hours, even doing close to the speed limit. We'd like to get at least 30 people to make this fun, and
everyone's invited, so spread the word!
I used to race cars, now I race myself.

whats a poker run?
Are you scared of the changes coming? The answer is on the inside.

Never thought I would hear that from I guy I look at and think "He has to have 4 Harleys, 3 in the back yard and one in his living room".
Anyway you drive to all of the stops and at each one you get a playing card, sometimes you can buy extras for more $.
At the last stop the best hand wins a % of the $.
Usually . . .

well with the 2 people under your count plus me being a team of 2 thats 6 total
this does sound fun and if ya need a place in the quad cities for the stop let me know i can do some legwork if ya need it
did anyone look at the mileage on this thing?
I am very interestred in doing this. I can't say for sure I will yet. Keep in mind Joliet IL is about a 7hr drive from my house. Gas to drive there do the poker run and drive home is going to be hella expensive and I hate interstate driving so I need to find a co-driver.
If you decide to go ahead with this regardless of if I can make it or not I will post this on the local street uner site for DSM and surrounding area. I know there are a few hard core guys who would be interested and a few who have done this type of thing before, granted it took place in IA.
What kind of rules are there going to be? Is it going to be map based as in GPS devices such as Tom Tom banned? What about a disqualification for getting ticketed during the trip? The last one I was in both of those rules were in place. The second may have been more of a liability/getting sued type of thing though. Either way I would be cool with those rules.
There will be no restiction on cars correct? It will be a run what you brung type of event correct?
What about a second and third place cash prize even if it was small say 2nd 50 bucks 3rd 25?

so just a rough zip code search nets 1100 MILES!!!
Yeah, sounds like fun to me
does this have a specific order to go in or is it just take the shortest route possible?
-The rough milage for this event is 1100 miles. That means that at 65MPH it should take you roughly 18 hours to complete the full trip. Could take more or less time depending on your route and speed though.
-Any car/truck/motorcycle is invited. Anyone entering must DRIVE THE CAR TO THE START POINT. There is no reason to trailer a car for a poker run, even if your coming from a ways away.
-You can take any route you want, just make sure you hit all 4 spots and get back to the finish point in time.
-2nd and 3rd will have a prize of some sort. just not sure what yet.
-GPS, maps, genies and any other routing device will be permitted this time. With the event being 1100 miles, I think it's allowable.
-So far I only have 2 reasons for disqualifications. Coming back to the shop with only 3 cards and not making it back to the shop by the deadline.
I am still trying to find locations that are either going to be open during the times of this event, 12AM-12AM, or places were I could put the cards and not have to worry about them being disturbed or having the participants get in trouble for being there after hours.

I would be down but I say cut the mileage down...simply for the fact that your looking to get it done in a day so you have to account for possible break downs and most poker runs ive heard about are stop at one place and hang out for a little while and then move on to the next. So if this is gonna be more like a cannonball then 1100 is fine but idk about for a poker run.
Ill hang out if you guys stop in my hood.
So how is wining going to be determined by the cards or the time it takes to complete it or a combo of some sort. 1100 miles 18 hrs seems like alot even with 2 people driving. Factor in another 12hrs drivetime to and fro for anyone near me. Even if I won I am not even sure it would be fun at that point.

Wheres the other 50% go?
Whoever takes that 50% is the only real winner. So far I don't see enough of a cost to justify taking 50%
