My '99 2.4 Sunfire has been running on 2 cylinders, and I originally thought that maybe one of the coils went out since that would be the logical first choice. So I bought and installed new ones and the problem still persists.
So the only other thing it could be is the ignition control module which costs waaay more to replace then the coils. Anyway, If there is any 2.4 J between 96 - 01 that would be willing to lend me their IDI (easily removable with 4 bolts and a wire harness connector) for like an hour I would be greatly appreciative. Hopefully I can find someone in the vicinity of say Clay Center, KS which includes Manhattan, Salina, Abilene, Junction City, Riley, etc..
I would ask someone locally if I could borrow theirs if I didn't think that it would make for a bizarre and ultimately uncomfortable phone call.
Phone: *ring* *ring*
Them: Hello?
Me: Hey, I don't mean for this to sound weird, but could I borrow a part off your car to troubleshoot my issue?
Them: uhh..
Anyway, so I'm posting on J hoping to be able to come up with something and bring a resolution to this issue.

i've got a spare cover i will give you for shipping costs bro, but im like 6 hours away from you
That would be awesome. Just to be sure though, the part I need looks like this:
I need only that part circled but I don't have any problem with paying you shipping, and something for your time for it, or the entire unit if you don't want to hassle with disassembly.
Thanks tons!

did you try changing the spark plugs before you even looked at the coil or ICM. thats a real simple fix and its not that expensive
