Lemme get this part outta the way first before questions are asked - I'm puttin' it in big italics so it's harder to miss!!
The Cav will stick around as a daily, and as such won't be seeing some of the crazy/insane mods that I had in my head. I'll still finish up some of the mods (namely the 'in-progress' stuff) but I won't be starting any new mods if I get this other project. So all these - shave, mold, partial interior (not full), air, paint/tint, will all still be finished eventually (as time, weather & money allow). But after all, in the end - It's still a Cavalier. And most likely, I would finish the Cav before starting major work on the other project Now for the point of this topic...
OK, I'm lookin' at a roller shell project - again. The current owner bought it some years ago from a guy in Wisco, but has lost the title since than - he never titled it BTW, so last official title would have been Wisco. Being that it would be a long-term project (surprise, surprise, lol), I wouldn't be worried about titling too soon. However, does anybody know who to contact or anything like that for doing the title? IF I buy it (haven't seen a price as yet), I will be making sure to get Bill Of Sale, witnesses, etc, to cover my own arse as well as possible. I'm also going to run the VIN beforehand to check that out, see what - if anything - comes up on it.
Obviously, I'd like to have it legal for the street, even tho it will only be a weekend warrior upon completion. It'll get more than enough attention from PD, I don't want to make it worse by having no title/registration/illegal-plates/etc
I seem to remember that a new, special VIN costs like over $500 & full inspection or something, and lost title stuff is under $150 or so, I think?
Anybody able to help me with this?? And NO, saying "finish one project before starting another" is NOT helpful, thank you. Especially since I clearly and largely stated that I will be finishing the Cav before starting major work on the other project!! Just b/c I'm not doing everything that I wanted to, doesn't mean that it's 'un-finished' - everybody makes sacrifices with stuff. And besides that, nothing is final yet. I haven't seen pics, VIN, or price yet b/c I just found it today, and the forum is now down for mainetance
Flamesuit on!!

A lost title is so much bull@!#$ you gotta go through. In Illinois at least, A friend of mine gave me his '76 Olds Cutlass before he moved away to California it was in decent shape ran and everything. I called him up and asked him for the title he says it was in the glove compartment. I checked and nothing. Turns out it was lost. Called up secretary of state and it was nothing but BS.
In the end I ended up dumping it on the street and the city towed it away.
IMO it's not worth the hassle.
Damn, that sucks
Maybe I'll just wait to title till after I move outta state in a few years than? I'll have to call them up and see what BS they give me about it...

id say dont mess with it. for the price and all the hassle your gonna go through you have a better chance getting something off of ebay. and if its who we talked about before, he is a con anyway and gets a lot of cash out of people. more than he deserves. if i were you i would walk away from it. i can gurantee its gonna cause you problems and a mess even if it is a roller. just trust me on this one.
^ Dunno if ya got my IM last nite, but it's not him. He actually has the clean title for his roller, but $500 + tow would be too much for me right now. The tow would prolly cost near as much as the damn shell!!
