In Illinois, can we drive a car wih a salvaged title? I thought we couldn't, but don't know damn near anything about state/federal law, I just know how to get caught. So I was just wondering if someone would be so kind as to clear that up for a dumb kid. Can we legally (daily) drive a salvaged car?
I believe you need to get whatever was wrong fixed, and then get it inspected. I'm not 100% positive tho. Try calling the police HQ to find out?? Or Sec of State too.
Im about 99% sure that you can drive with a salvaged title but it needs to be inspected like paul said.

A salvaged vehicle can only be rebuilt by a licensed rebuilder. When a salvaged vehicle is eight model
years old or newer, the vehicle must first be inspected at an Illinois Department of Transportation Safety
Inspection Station for a $10-$15 fee. It then must be inspected at a Secretary of State Police Vehicle
Inspection Station for a $94 fee.
The following items must be submitted at the Secretary of State Police inspection:
• Application for Title
• Salvage Certificate or out-of-state title
• Safety inspection form
• Bills of sale
• Other documents proving acquisition of all essential parts used to rebuild the vehicle
• Salvage Affirmation
• $65 title fee
• Appropriate tax form and check payable to Illinois Department of Revenue, if applicable. (See page 27
for Salvage Certificate sample.) No tax form is required if a licensed rebuilder is a retailer of vehicles
and purchased the vehicle for resale. If a licensed rebuilder purchased the vehicle for personal use, the
appropriate tax form must be submitted.)
When a Certificate of Title is issued for a vehicle for which a Salvage Certificate has been previously
issued, the new Certificate of Title must always bear the word “Rebuilt.” This will indicate to any future buyer
that a particular vehicle was once salvaged and has since been rebuilt. (The word “REBUILT” replaces
“S.V.” as the designation for salvaged vehicles. You may still see titles with “S.V.” printed below the title number,
but as these vehicles are sold, all titles will eventually be marked “REBUILT.” Both “S.V.” and “REBUILT”
indicate that the vehicle listed had previously been issued a Salvage Certificate.)
hope that helps.
i'm baaaaack!!
