Cam's out of Sync with Crank

Does anyone know how to re-time a 2.0 ecotec, where the cams and crank has become out of sync?

2.0 Ecotec's don't come stock in our cars... you may want to try a cobalt forum...

General Mechanics would suggest to get to TDC and line up the timing marks...

Timing Ecotecs is the same regardless of which version. And you are correct, set the motor to TDC, then line everything up, there are marks on the cam and crank gears that line up to colored links on the timing chain. Pretty straight forward process.

You will probably have to break one cam bolt loose and since it's torque to yield you need to buy new ones.

Thanks for the input guys...
So how does this plan sound:

1. With both the Balance and Timing chains OFF, turn the crankshaft so that NO Piston is at TDC. This ensures that the cams can be turned to the correct positions without damage to valves.
2. Now turn the Intake Cam sprocket to about 2 o'clock and the Exhaust Cam sprocket to about 10 o'clock.
3. Turn Crank Shaft until key-way on the shaft is at 12 O'clock, which will put cylinder No 1 at TDC.
4. Install the Balance Chain by lining up the marks on the chain, first on the crank, (6 o'clock)
5. Then come up and spin the intake side balance shaft until it fits the mark on the chain, (12 o'clock),
6. Then spin the exhaust side balance shaft until it fits the mark on the chain, (6 o'clock)
7. WITHOUT moving the crankshaft, install the Cam-Timing chain by starting at the crank shaft, 5 o'clock mark and the mark on the chain.
8. Move up to the Intake Cam and spin the cam as needed to put the mark on the chain on the Intake Diamond mark on the sprocket
9. Now install the chain mark on the Exhaust Cam Triangle mark on the sprocket.

Will this work or is there any more adjustments that need to be made to make sure the cams wont hit the pistons before closing things up?
