I have a 2.3 and want to use adjustable gears for a 2.4 twin cam and can't find a local auto parts store that has a set 2.3 and 2.4 gears to compare.

use 2.4 chain?
will need to change the crank gear and water pump and somehow timing housing.

So a 2.4 chain and crank gear has to be used? Is the 2.4 chain longer or shorter then the 2.3 chain and what do I do about the water pump gear the 2.4 water pump gear is made to the pump as the 2.3 pump gear is pressed on a bearing.
2.3's had a double row timing chain setup. i believe except in 95. 95 2.3's and all 2.4's have a single row setup. so the gears are different. pretty sure you can swap to the single row setup but unsure exactly what is required. probably timing case, cover, water pump, all gears, chain, tensioner, guides, etc. im pretty sure 95 2.3's had the single row chain but the older style water pump with the gear and bearing as a part of the timing case.
I just don't know if I'm going to benefit from the adjustable gears and if it's worth going throw all the work to get them to fit my turbo motor.
So I would have to use a 2.4 water?

dude...take it from me....if you have a 2.3 and want to use 2.4 gears..youll need both 2.4 gears, the chain, the water pump, the whole timing housing, and the crank gear changed out. I would simply look around for the 2.3 adjustable gears...ive got a set on my 2.3, got quite a bit of power from using them as well.

I looked for 2.3 adjustable gears but can't find any . are your gears the ones with offset pins or similar to the 2.4 gears
scott yours are adjustable via the hard way. aka removing the entire works and putting in a different off-set bushing. hardly convienent. LOL
he wants to use the mcmoney gears so he can adjust them on the fly. much easier.
and for whoever said the 2.3's had dual chains it was only the older ones. i dont remember exactly what year it was changed (i think 90) but they did away with the dual setup and went single.
berettaman... ron siebenick has my 2.3 (actually adjustable, sorry scott
) gear (i only was able to source one
) and is in the process of reproducing them in single AND dual viriety (mine happens to be dual).
so the LD9 water pump bolts to a quad block, aye? ... that i did not know.

adjustable on the fly??? why in gods name would you adjust cam timing "on the fly" ??? ......... " oh i just dont like my low end today let me advance my cam a bit" ...WTF ?? what are you sorry for? i got my cam gears for 10x less than what you paid..adjusted them where i wanted them..and they worked out great..i have no reason to make any further adjustment. :p
not that im hating on the 2.4 ones...im not. But dont feel sorry for ME hahaha IM rollin on 238whp and 200tq NA ..... im good :p
#1 reason for wanting to have ease of adjustment is because there isnt much info on what works and what doesnt work. even if there was.. every engine is different and responds differently. so instead of spending hours and hours dismantling the engine (in total over the course of finding out whats better) to adjust the cams you simply take the window off and adjust 8 bolts. done and done.
now, once you DO have them adjusted and where you want (im saying you simply got lucky, and whos to say further adjustment couldnt help?) they are pretty much useless unless you want to adjust for a different track or class, etc.
and lastly, they are a bit lighter than stock.
the ones he wants to buy arent that expensive. and come with a windowed stock cover. for the money and benefits.. they are worth it.
